Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Another guy who doesn't count towards the comp pick process, correct?

Detroit cut him prior to a bonus coming due.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Now that we're filling in holes, I wouldn't be surprised if we trade at least 2 of our day one picks for future higher picks.

definitely. maybe trade 47 or 58 for a first and our 3rd for a 2nd in 010

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

It's only a one year deal, so I'm not sure people should be looking for much here.

I'm looking for one year of the Cleveland Leigh Bodden.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

I think Springs will play CB not S, and I don't think they signed these guys with the idea of starting the same players who gave it up on third down all last year. There will be a different secondary.

Part of that problem was due to a lack of pass rush, which is what will be addressed in the draft.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

This is great!! I was hoping that Bodden was going to be signed!! Could Bodden be the new Samuel in our defensive system??

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

I don't know? Could Baker be the new Gonzalez in our offensive system??

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Mike Richardson should be coming back off IR...but I wouldn't count on him being too much of a factor, but who knows.

What should be interesting is if any of the kids accel in camp, if any of the veterans like Springs would get looks at helping out at Safety
Richardson was on IR in 2007, he started 2008 on the Practice Squad before being called up and seeing spot duty in relief of O'Neal and Hobbs, plus doing a solid job on STs.

I agree with you 100%, and I much rather see better players at the postion than Hobbs. I posted it in other thread that I think BB has really watched some film in the offseason and has made some touch calls so far.

Hobbs does not offer much as a play maker. He got his ***** handed to him in the Rams game by a rookie.

Could Brady be the new Cassel in our offensive system? :p

Well I'm hoping their dry for many reasons lol but mainly because I still think Hobbs is a decent #2 CB. At Springs age I can't see how he's gonna be expected to cover guys on every down.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

I agree. Hobbs is still a starter IMO.

I wouldn't be so sure. Clearly Springs is a guy who could play safety in a jam, but he turned the Eagles down because he wouldn't play safety for them. So the Pats obviously told him he'd be a corner. Of the three top guys, Hobbs is the best suited for that "Star" position the Pats use, which is basically their third corner. Bodden and Springs are much better choices to match up with bigger, more physical guys outside.

There's so much spread offense now that you're basically playing with three corners a lot anyway. Hobbs/Springs/Bodden/Wheatley/Wilhite is a pretty good group. I'd rather see them shore up the corner position first and then add some depth to the safety spot later. Maybe they'll sign Rodney and draft a safety high, in which case you'd much rather have Springs outside.

Springs is an outside corner anyway, right?

Yeah, thats my question: What does all this mean?

Does it mean they're not going to resign hobbs next year? Does it mean the kids are busts? Does it mean someone is getting turned into a safety? (Springs would be my guess).

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Finally some tall CB's who can actually play. :D

Yeah, BB has said a lot this offseason about the spread, and passing in the new NFL, so I'm not all that surprised that he wants 3 starting level CBs, especially considering how fragile CBs seem to be in the Pats system.

I still don't think this does a goddamn thing unless they fix the pass rush, though.

It means that we can wait a year to make the assessment. Even if Hobbs goes, we'll be fine at corner.
