10 good reasons to draft Percy Harvin

Wow. If BB drafts an offensive player it better be with a top 10 pick and it better be on the front line. All things being equal, I'd be really disappointed if they don't go "D" all the way in the first two rounds.

But, as mentionned, if they somehow aquire a top of the round #1... I'd be glad to see an O-lineman due to value and longevity.

Harvin : yikes. He might be awesome, but I don't think scoring is really our problem right now.

Now that's some sound logic.

Harvin will have the same impact for some team that DeSean Jackson had for the Eagles. Only difference is Harvin is bigger, stronger & more physical.

Sorry Bro, the Pats shouldn't use a first round pick on a injury prone WR.

percy harvin is exactly ted ginn jr.
Rule #1 don't waste first round draft picks on WRs

I don't think they should either, but just writing off Harvin because Chad Jackson was a bust is facile and faulty logic. Jackson was recruited by a different regime and didn't spend his whole time in Urban Meyer's spread offense.

I think Harvin, if he stays healthy, will be a great second option on a team with a proven number one, but don't think he will ever be a dominant #1 WR. If he goes to the Titans to be "The Man", he'll likely "flop", but if he goes to Houston opposite Andre Johnson, watch the **** out.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure I could put up 500 yards receiving opposite Andre Johnson (okay, not really). That guy is bracket coverage waiting to happen.

As everyone knows, "Percy Harvin" is an anagram for "Raven Cry Hip". Obviously he will be drafted by Baltimore and suffer a hip injury in his rookie season.

he seems like he will be a dynamic player. however, durability has to be a major concern. as a running back type will be be able to sustain the pounding. as a receiver will he have good enough hands, does he run good enough routes, can he catch well enough in traffic where in the pros guys will be able to run with him?

also, i dont know how it is a positive for percy hervin that the patriots are a team "which can afford to have him sit and recover." i mean, you might want to strike that off the list.

i do think his athletic ability is great, no doubt. but to me, we are not a team that needs him in the first round. if he is available when we select in the second i think his athleticism would warrant a gamble, but there are just too many really good football players in the draft with a let less risk and play a position which i think we need to upgrade for the long haul

you shouldn't shy away from a guy just because "busts" you have drafted from the same school in the past. i still don't consider chad jackson a bust, i'd give him a full year with a team to see.

anyway, i know there are needs on defense, but there are many things about harvin that make me think belichick would love to add him, especially if the pats pick up another first rounder for cassel. belichick loves versatility and deception. those are two key things harvin offers. he can line up out wide opposite moss, in the slot, or in the backfield. he can be used in the run game, on deep/intermediate routes, on bubble screens, and on short check-down routes.

you have to figure we have moss for this year and next year and that is it. during and after that 3rd year he'll definitely be slowing down and even if he is brought back he won't be the elite WR he was. percy will almost certainly never develop into a #1 wr like moss, but he is an explosive playmaker to replace moss when the time comes. even if you say you would rather draft or sign a different WR when moss' time is up, that's fine too. then percy can be used as the successor to kevin faulk. we all know how important faulk has been to this team, and with harvin's great speed and ability to make people miss you'd have to think he'd be an ideal replacement. he could also be used on KR and PR to spare hobbs and welker from those duties.

i know there are some questions about his durability, and that should be taken into consideration. but this guy was a dominant playmaker in the best conference in college football. i remember reading/hearing how he's actually got better speed and better lateral quickness/agility than reggie bush.

there's no doubt he'd add explosiveness to the pats offense and a great receiving option, but i think belichick would LOVE the versatile and deceptive ways he could use harvin against opponents. harvin could have a huge impact on 2 out of the 3 phases of the game (offense and special teams) and i think belichick would love this as well.

I don't doubt that he's an explosive offensive player like Reggie Bush was coming out of college. In spite of the off the charts talent, all you have to ask yourself is if a Bush-type player fits the Pats system. BB values versatility, but not the kind Harvin brings to the table. Like Bush, Harvin was a man among boys in college, but a guy without a true position in the NFL.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Pats draft Harvin IN THE SECOND ROUND, This team has too many Defenseive needs to waste a !st rd pick on a Hybrid. As someone else said, if Bush can't do it, what makes you think that Harvin can?

Harvin's draft status will be decided by his combine 40 time. If he runs 4.3 or better, than he will not be around at #23.

the thing is that harvin has been more of a WR than a RB. reggie was basically handed the ball out of the backfield at USC and just beat guys to the edge, turned the corner, and took off. he never really had to run between the tackles because he was so much faster than everyone else.

now with harvin, i'm projecting that he will be a WR. i'm in no way suggesting that he is a reggie bush type of RB for us. i think he is a great option to line up opposite moss or even put in the slot. i'm also saying because of his history as playing RB as his second position you could line him up in the backfield maybe in the shot gun with another back. you could create such deception on offense it's almost scary. you've got moss and welker obviously, but then harvin could be handed the ball or throw to out of the backfield. and eventually, kevin faulk will sadly need to be replaced. i think harvin would be the perfect type of playmaker to replace him if he doesn't work out as a #2 WR. however, with his talent i would think he'd be able to succeed at both.

I would imagine most people are projecting him to be a WR, as he is a WR.

yes i know. he was making a point that harvin doesn't have a position like reggie. i was pointing out reggie was a rb who can catch the ball out of the backfield and percy is a wr who can line up in the backfield if you need him to.

I suppose re-reading your post it's clearer than others re: your understanding of Harvin, but there are a few posts on this thread that seem to indicate he is primarily a RB, which I find odd.

Watson still has some trade value now due to his athletic ability, so even if harvin doesnt play great or is often injured, his value will still be there later on in his career. It wont be as high as a #1 but we would still get something for him. Harvin plays multiple positions and has athletic ability, that should help keep his value even if he is a bust.

Drafting a pocket QB early in the first round and then he becomes a bust, its gonna be hard to trade him to another team, especially if he has very little athletic ability.
