Is this a viable way to handle the QB situation?

Start by watching the Miami game. See no one tackle anyone.

Watch the San Diego game. Watch Rivers wear out his arm completed 70 yard TD passes.

Watch the Jets game in OT. Watch a third and 15 get converted, as well as every other third down and the Jets march down the field totally unmolested.

Put in a half decent defense on the field in any of those games and we are 14-2.

Forget the stats. Watch the games.

that same jets game where cassel allowed a shotgun snap to fly by his head.........again

or the colts game.......gaffney becomes a punter and thomas acts like an idiot.........

last I checked, the offense was a joke in the first game against the dolphins as well as the chargers game.......the only reason the pats did what they did this year was they played the bottom 3rd of the NFL defenses

dunce cap starting to itch?

I don't know, check your scalp.

After you talk to Rich Gannon about how he's spent years in this system and is now ready to execute the same way Brady was.

Nice job, Einstein. ;)

Can't really blame the first Dolphins game on the offense. Neither side played particularly well in that game, but the D got slaughtered. It would have taken the 2007 Patriots offense to win that game. Same with the Chargers game. The Steelers game is on the offense and ST, though- the D actually played Pittsburgh well enough to win, I thought.

I do agree, though, that people hugely underestimate the fact that we happened to play the two worst defensive divisions in football (AFC west, NFC west) this year. Seriously, Brady could have thrown 60 TDs with this schedule if he really wanted to.

Wait a sec... you're trying to make the point that the Pats missed the playoffs because of the offense (which scored the 2nd most points of any team in the AFC), and you're telling someone else that they don't know much about football?

FYI, 4 of the 6 AFC playoff teams allowed fewer points than the Pats did. I don't think that the Pats' defense is bad by any stretch, but it's certainly more culpable than the offense is for why they finished 11-5 instead of 12-4.

The real question is why did this team only go 11-5 against the 'easiest' schedule in the NFL. And yes our offense SHOULD have been performing well considering how bad the defenses they were facing were rated. I'm willing to give Cassel credit for stepping up. He has truly evolved into a valuable starting QB that will likely net us some nice picks, but he was also torching some pretty weak secondaries this year.

I completely agree, and have said very similar things in the Brady/Cassel threads. I'm not arguing that the Pats' offense was the best in the league- I'm just saying that I don't really believe that it lost us any games, other than maybe the Steelers game. It certainly wasn't the 'joke' that tanked_as_usual thinks it was.

BradyFTW...I appreciate your opinions on here......I think realistically, you have to look at BOTH offense and defense when determining why we didn't make the playoffs this year. Pats O settled for far too many FG's this year overall....Alot of our offensive success was against the league's worst defenses....Cardinals had frostbite :)) Pats secondary was pretty porous overall........Pats D gave up huge gains on long yardage 3rd downs this year......It just wasn't our year. Alot of people are going to say "Hey with Rodney, Adalius, Maroney in there we could have made it happen" Shoulda/coulda/woulda crowd......I am not so sure about that....I don't know that THIS team was going to get to the big dance this year....never mind the playoffs......

Hopefully Cassel has evolved into a valuable starting QB....so that other teams will trade valuable first (and maybe third) round picks for him...........

not much for comprehension, are you.........so how did the offense get a pass from you against the dolphins?

so which games did the lose because of the offense and which ones because of the defense? I'd like YOUR version of that.......

I simply believe that o'connell is already a better QB than cassel....I know that many of you can't comprehend that but he is....and I will tell you right now that cassel will not be here regardless of what brady's condition is.............

not sure how you can't balance fault in certain games......the chargers? the pats generated most of their offense in the last 5 minutes of that game........3 drives with negative yardage......

it is what it is, but you only see what you want to see

The Dolphins ran for 200+ yards and 4 TDs. Not saying that the offense played exceptionally, but it doesn't even matter how it played. When your defense gives up 200 yards and 4 TDs on the ground, you lose.

so which games did the lose because of the offense and which ones because of the defense? I'd like YOUR version of that.......

Of the Pats' losses, the defense crapped the bed against the Dolphins, Chargers, Jets, and Colts. The offense crapped the bed against the Steelers.

I dunno if O'Connell is better than Cassel, but I do know that Brady is orders of magnitude better than either one of them. I agree that Cassel won't be on our roster by training camp.

how did the defense crap out against the colts? giving up 18 point should mean a win and when given the opportunity against the colts, the offense not only blew it once, but twice.......the defense did its job against the colts......how about the chargers.......how does the offense get off the hook for 150 yards of total offense with 5 min left? the game was already over for the rest.........the offense crapped against the dolphins, chargers, steelers, and colts.......

Fair enough, the Colts was an oversight on my part. That one was a wash- both sides made key mistakes, and made some plays. The defense takes the hit for the Chargers loss because it allowed Vincent Jackson to have a career game and Philip Rivers to throw 3 TDs.

lets just shoot Brady and get it over with. Will that make everyone happy?

the point of it was how to handle the QB situation.....we agree on how it is going to work out in the end........and to me it was never really about blaming the offense versus the defense......I just believe that cassel is not that good, and that the pats would be best served to turn him into a different resource ASAP
