Guregian: Tom Brady suffers setback; Infection leads to two more procedures

Didn't Rivers simply have his ACL removed and then dealt with in the offseason?

I'm reading that and it sounds silly, but I'm positive I've heard that a few times.

You are right. They removed his ACL all together.

There is a possibility that the infection will linger for longer than that. In which case, the surgery would be delayed further. Lets hope the infection isnt serious and that the antibiotics work

Well, the fact that the infection was discovered within a week of the surgery and they are taking an agressive approach to treat the infection, you gotta think that it will be gone after six weeks. But with the human body, you never know.

This sucks for Brady I hope he gets this cleared up asap, at the same time nobody knows whats really going on, whether its espn's wendi nix, the whack herald, schefter or anybody else outside of Brady, his doc, and BB. All we can do as fans is hope for the best and pray there just going back in to make sure the infection is throughly cleaned so he can begin his rehab.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

The more news I read on Brady, the less likely it ever appears he'll FULLY recover. (Keep in mind, McNabb is probably just NOW fully recovered, and who knows if Palmer's 100%).

Can't say I like the guy at all, but it really is a shame to have a great career cut down by injury. I can relate all to well with Terrell Davis who had lingering injuries cut his career WAY short.

If he has to start from scratch it appears that he will NOT be ready for the start of next season.

That's just stupid. History shows he could have the ACL re-done 3 months from now and have a good chance to be ready for opening day.

Bye bye Bronco fan.

History also says while they were "recovered" they didn't play to their ability for a while longer.

Hate the news or not, it's the truth.

"Tom is looking at months, not weeks, to fix this."

I just saw this quote go by at the bottom of Sportscenter's ticker. I don't know who said it... but I don't like the sounds of it.

I dont give a rats ass that Mcnabb or Palmer didnt play to there abilities the following year, there not in the same class as Brady his ability is in his head and heart.

No matter how it is spinned , its not good news, and we wont know until next yr on how its potrayed.. Just as we take a step up we get 2 steps back in news.. We can only hope for the best.. :(

That's not true. Phillip Rivers is better across the board this year from last statistically. Palmer was about the same (it was the following year the Bengals team started to bring him down).

It isn't the truth for QBs. Philip Rivers is having his best year as a pro only 9 months after ACL surgery. Carson Palmer had a great year after tearing three ligaments and dislocating his knee cap. He had 4,035 yards (a career high at that point), 28TDs (only three less than the previous year), and 13 INTs (one more than the previous year) the following season after his surgery.

McNabb struggled, but he is a mobile QB who actually throws better on the run than standing in the pocket.

Re: Guregian: Brady has two more sugeries; patellar tendon graft could fail

Look, here is how I look at it.

They have the best doctors in the world looking after our #12's knee. If it can be fixed it will. We all know Tom's work ethic, if it can be done, he can do it. We all know Tom's mental strength, the strength required to smartly push the effort.

So everybody calm the frig down, support Matt and the team going forward.

Short term goals?...we have a division to win here.

I haven't read ahead yet, so this is probably mentioned later in the thread, but one report had Brady choosing his own doctor instead of using the recommended team doctor. If that proves true, Brady looks like a dope.

A dope are you serious? Dr.Neal S. Elattrache pretty much wrote the book on these kinds of procedures and is one of the most highly regarded surgeons in the world. Ya must be a complete moron for going with a world renowed doctor.

For what it worth Adam Schefter said on NFL Access that friends and family members he talked to felt it was a setback, but are confident that the infection will be taken care of without needs for another surgery or a major setback to his recovery.

Dave my man, the Doc Brady went to is the Doc that the vaunted Pats Doc calls when he's got a tough question. The problem here seems to be an unsterile operating theater and staph infection, something quite common in American hospitals today and a real national health problem.

Aslong as he doesnt need another major knee surgery he should be good to go, the infection is the only pain in the ass.

I would assume, perhaps incorrectly, that he can started re-habbing the knee while the antibiotics are doing their job; even if only a moderate re-hab.

Patriots issued a statement.

Suck it, ESPN.

Patriots release statement - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

The Patriots released the following statement tonight:

"Today, ESPN cited an unnamed source who supposedly expressed the feelings of the Patriots ‘organization.’ This unsubstantiated report does not represent the team's views whatsoever. We have supported Tom Brady one hundred percent from day one of this process and will continue to do so. We issued a statement last Saturday expressing our complete organizational support for Tom. That support includes all aspects of the process. Unfortunately, our statement was not mentioned or referenced in ESPN’s report. Today, we reiterate our total support for Tom as he recovers from his injury."
