Would Bill Belichick voluntarily resign?

None of this would have happened if BB had not ignored Roger Goodell's memo at the beginning of the season not to videotape.

once again I'm forced to point out that the memo was sent on in Sept of 2006, which contrary to popular belief was not 3 days before the Jets game where they where caught taping.

you need to work hard to improve your maturity because how was 07 SB lost the same as other losts.?

I know it was only a game but it was NOT the game which everybody was going to miss. I'm sure you know the difference between irreplaceable lost and replaceable lost.

Holy christ, is this even intelligible?

This fact seems lost on everyone.

IF BB was ever forced by Kraft to resign as HC of the NEP then the haters would have won. If, at this point, this has become as personal for Kraft, BB, and the Pats as it is for most of us fans--there's no way in hell he's stepping aside.

Patriot Nation to arms!! You may be weary and tired of defending your team and want it all to go away, but our resolve must be to stand with our coach until he is vindicated. Let there be no mistake that we will not be bullied or shamed into abandoning him to be savaged by the legion of jealous hypocrites masquerading behind the guise of integrity.

IN BB WE TRUST!

Amen. I never grow weary and tired of defending the Pats.

If BB ever resigned or stepped down, there would be a flood of owners calling him flying him for immediate interviews.
Coaches who took pokes at BB and the Pats would suddenly get their walking papers when they thought they had job security and would have to coach like pop warner ball or be a assistant perhaps to BB themselves.
It's good for pats fans however NOT HAPPENING!

Belichick goes nowhere given his love of football and the knowledge he will be demonized by the press wherever he goes. He tried to play ball with the media in Cleveland and paid the price. He came here justifiably distrusting the media, a quality which serves him well now.

Analogizing Belichick's loss to a Captain grounding his ship - it's a bit of a stretch. Captains are fired for grounding ships because charts and instruments make it a completely avoidable outcome barring negligence. If you accept the analogy, you believe there is no way the Giants should have won other than the negligence of Belichick. Any way you slice it, players made mistakes and did not show up. Lombardi himself could not have fixed those game time issues.

Belichick took the Patsies and turned them into the Patriots. He has definitely made his share of mistakes but I would take him over any living coach, retired or active. Any decision to force him out is a decision to accept mediocrity and a likely return to the bad old days when nobody hates the team because nobody perceives the team as a threat. Teams and fans hate winners in competitive sports, so please do not operate under the delusion that this team would be any less hated if there was no Spygate (the Rodney HGH story or Moss assault story would be amplified by the media to fill the void). You can have the Patsies. I'll take Belichick and the Patriots without reservation.
