Why Yards are Better than Points

I didn't bother to click on the article, but from the OP's initial comment: how does Easterbrook justify the logic that yards are better than points for offenses, but presumably he feels that does not equally apply for defenses? Isn't that just a bit hypocritical? Does he believe that Pittsburgh had a better defense than Seattle or San Francisco in 2012?

I guess since Baltimore's 17th-ranked yardage defense doesn't quite fit into his theory, then it is perfectly okay to simply disregard that bit of information. Then again, he also disregarded the Ravens 16th ranked yardage offense as well.
