Whatever happened to this Boards idea of having Poster of the Month?

I saw it a while ago on here and was just wondering what happened to it.

I think it would be something cool to have added to the board. Even if a certain poster just kept the record his or herself.

What do you guys think. Are you in favor or against the idea?

Think about it, there would be nothing but daily pleas by NEM being cut & pasted into every thread. You think we have some postal cases now?

There was a thread about it. It was proposed by a well-known poster from Arizona, who offered to do the work.

The idea was that it would have a series of categories and be a "poster of the year", rather than poster of the month. I think that would be good (e.g. funniest poster, most passionate poster, newcomer of the year, etc.) I think it is nice to give props to people, but potentially a very bad thing to give over-competitive people (you know who you are!) another outlet for their competitiveness.

However, despite being reminded, he did not get around to doing anything and, now that the season is in full swing, the more important business of telling everyone that Josh McDaniels is an idiot appears to have driven it from his mind ...

I post over at Jetnation and they have a POTW. The way they run it is one guy was put in charge of it. Whenever someone wants to nominate a poster, they just quote that persons post and replies with POTW NOM. Then when it comes time, the guy running just does a search for all posts that week with POTW in them and makes his decision from there. It's alot of fun but you have to have someone very dedicated running it.

As long as there was a category for "best poster from Manchester, England, now living in London, whose username is inspired by a black cat living in West London" I'd be up for it.

I'm actually against the idea as it implies that someone's opinions or humour are better than others'. That's a potential recipe for making less confident posters feel like their views aren't valued. We want to encourage people to feel like they can post, without thinking, "people will only ridicule what I say", or "I'm not as funny as that poster". I have my own favourite, and less favoured, posters but I keep the list to myself.

Besides, I'd get bored of winning every month.
