No kudos at all to Little Bill for not activating Troy for the SB That Shall Not Be Named. Bad, bad karma. Troy also should've been activated for the final regular-season game at the Meadowlands, so he could've caught a TD pass which would've broken the donkeys' record of most TD scorers by one team in one season.
Two of the most clutch catches I have ever seen from a Patriot were made by Troy: in 1996, on the last game of the regular season, at the Meadowlands, vs. the jints, during the 4th quarter, on his backside; and in SB38, during the championship-winning drive, on 1st/20, after a bogus OPI call against Troy himself, amoung at least 2 defenders, twisting his body as he's catching the ball. Unreal.
And finally, if I could teach a youngster how to behave as a professional WR in the NFL, I would have him watch all the video that I could find on Troy Brown. Concentration, crisp routes, sure hands, no wasted motion, no wasted time and no wasted breath on meaningless, ego-gratifying posing and trash-talking. He is the anti-Mohammed Ali: he respected the game, his teammates and his opponents, with a smile through which shined the content of his character.
Thank you for everything, Troy. You have given us more than we have given you. Let no man ever wear #80 for the New England Patriots again.
P.S.: Could this appreciation thread be stickied at least until the 49ers' game? We could use the reminder of what a real Patriot looks like.
