Agreed. Whoever thinks we need another pro football league is delusional. Nobody's ever succeeded against the NFL.
The oNLY leagues possible are ones that are more minor leagues TO the NFL or serve that purpose...REAL competition now is far far from what it was like in the past...thinking AFL and the merger. AT that point teh NFL was old and really stiff and needed a shot in the arm. The upstart AFL was more offensive minded and allowed the 2 pt conversion...which the NFL dismissed. Also..the time was never official on the old NFL scoreboards..and that created controversy at times. The AFL time keeping was OFFICIAL on the board so the fans could see. Also teh AFL used names on the backs of unis which the NFL didn't care about doing. It took Namath to seal the deal really and the AFL made the NFL a lot stronger. Too much money now to have ANY REAL competitive league.

I don't think the UFL is trying to compete head to head with the NFL. I think they are trying to be a minor league to complement the NFL. There is no such league that exists now. If your a NFL team and you cut a lot of players before the season started. And you get injuries later in the year and need to sign guys it's great to have a league full of potential players who are in game shape ready to go. Trying to work out on your own to stay in shape is not the same as practicing and playing real games every week. So I definitely see the benefit of the UFL. Vets who want to get back in the league, or vets tired of being backups and want to actually play and young kids who fell through the cracks and haven't gotten a chance all get to showcase their talents to the NFL teams. I think like 40 players from the UFL last year signed to NFL teams after the season.
