...leaving Josh Beckett in up 13-1. Totally classless. Running up the score like they did.

Read all about in in Gregg Easterbrook's column on Thursday.

before this year never heard of Greg Easterbrook, now we all have the pleasure.. he has achieved his goal, name recognition here in the midst of Pats-RS fans.

the rockies had a good enough offense were they could still make it a game fast

I think it was a little unnecessary for Francona to leave Beckett in. There was no need for him to be in when they were up 13-1.

To be quite honest, there's more to baseball vs football when it comes to a thrashing. Taking Brady out early against Miami would not effect him in the next start. In baseball, everything is about rhythm, days off, and pitch count. Besides, when the heck do you ever hear about baseball teams running up the score, it's not in the baseball dictionary. This is a parody pertaining to the Patriots.

Starters get tuned to their job. What that means is that once a typical one gets going he's good for something like 100 pitches, then needs something like 4-5 days to rest. If he only throws 50 pitches he still needs the standard rest by and large. That's not scientifically proven, but there's tons of anecdotal evidence. Some vary sometimes, Beckett came back on three days rest in the '01 World Series and pitched 5 excellent innings IIRC; but its hard to predict. So taking Beckett out before he's winded doesn't help at all and only taxes the Bullpen more than necessary, and when it comes to the Bullpen you always need to keep in mind that you might need to empty yours tomorrow.

Some nut on EEI actually suggested that Paps should start game 7 against the Indians. He figured Paps was good for 5 innings minimum. Anything's possible and Paps is still very young; but the smart money would be on him getting shelled by his third inning. He'd be able to transition over weeks or months; but if he didn't have that transition he'd get crushed.
