Pads made an appearance as well as Troy Brown and Ned Pepper.

Early in practice working on run fits Spikes stepped up to fill a gap and the contact was loud and I got giddy.

Another solid day from Dobson. Boyce had one real nice one. At one point late in Practice while the 3s were running 11 on 11s Brady, Dobson, Boyce, and Troy Brown were off on their own and as they were walking back to join the team you could see Dobson and Brown chatting it up. Nice to see the Marshall connection.

Ridley had two fumbles and believe Vince was in on them both.

Spent some time watching pass rush drills and Jones is clearly the best but I thought Francis kept standing out. Kept trying to Collins do this but he was not in the group and it seems he is being worked exclusively at LB. In this drill the edge guys work on the tackles and the interior work over the centers and guards but they were goinh one at a time. Vince and Kelly almost always get a good push.

During the drill where its one on one between the cones where they try and tackle the ball carrier which is always interesting I thought Adrian Wilson had the best tackle it wasnt a violent hit or anything just picture perfect square up and a real solid take down. Kenbrell was the carrier at the time.

I thought Kenbrell looked pretty good today. Jenkins had a couple drops and while I think he has looked pretty good so far in camp he some guys behind him in Kenbrell and Aiken that could give him a run for his money. And for that matter Jules better get on the field soon too. DA continues to look good.

Dennard had a few plays where he got beat but he continued to show some good ball skills knocking a few away that were in the hands of WRs. IMO he uses his hands better than any of our other DBs. It was kind of fun watching Arrington and DA battle in the slot at one point it seemed like they kept going back and forth with who was winning the battle.

I guess that is it for now if I think of anything else I will add it.

Thanks for that. it's a bit disappointing Armstead still isn't there. Was Hightower included in the rushing drills at DE?

Also how about Dowling? how is he looking in coverage?

Any idea what the injury is with Armstead if it isn't his heart?

I feel like Francis has been forgotten by a lot of fans amid the Collins and Armstead hype.

Francis came on strong at the end of last season and I'm excited to see more.

Hopefully I'll get up there next weekend if they're still open to the public (should be).

I'm very curious on Justin Francis for two reasons 1) very little commentary on him. He is expectedly under-the-radar as he's hardly a star player. And 2) he is someone that earned significant starting time last year. As an undrafted player, I expect that he had a lot of catching up to do in terms of improving physically (strength). I think he can be a contributor this year--more so than last year.

He's one of the players I'll be watching during the preseason games when a lot of the starters come off the field.

For a short period during this drill they did bring Hightower in and his stance was even wider as an OLB would and I dont recall anything special to write about but I only saw a rep or two from him.

I meant to mention Dowling. I usually try to just note the positives I see as I caution that it is real tough to truly evaluate in this setting as a fan just watching without knowing the full details of everything and not being able to watch again but Dowling really seemed to be torched today especially in the one on ones and not just by one guy it seemed several had their way with him. Just one day so not going to read anything into it but it was a tough one.

Its funny you say that as I was trying to get a look at Buchanan, Bernard, and Bequtte but it was Francis who kept standing out. I fo recall a decent play or two from Bernard and Bequtte throughout the day but Francis was a stand out at least in this drill from my eye.

Interesting about Dowling. After a good minicamp many posters here were penciling him in as a starter, but I considered him a bubble guy and still think his roster status is largely dependent on Dennard's disciplinary and legal status. I think he's competing with a roster spot with guys like Cole and Ebner, both of whom offer core special teams value, and not a starting spot where Talib, Dennard, and Arrington are entrenched as your top 3. Again it depends on Dennard, but a poor showing in pads doesn't help Dowling's cause.

BTW - We haven't heard much about Logan Ryan. Did I miss something and he's not playing or is he just not doing anything good or bad?

He's practicing, and no news is good news as far as a rookie corner is concerned.

For what its worth Dowling was running with the first unit kick coverage today. Cant say enough its just one day and my opinion.

I tried to remember to watch him a little and one time I recall him getting beat but I would tend to agree with Prime that not hearing much or his not standing out negatively isnt a bad thing.
