I think a lot of people either werent watching Mike Haynes play corner for this team, or are blinded by dislike.

Eric Warfiled, Chad Scott, a rookie 7th rounder compared to Mike Haynes is ludicrous. Ellis Hobbs, Randall Gay and Asante Samuel have yet to play near Haynes' level.

Perhaps Haynes isnt what he used to be but we have no one who has ever been what Haynes used to be.

Used to be good isn't enough. What about NEXT year?

Maybe Law can play again, maybe he can't. I can't break down tape like you and BB and others. But I was not impressed with what I saw with the Jets. He WAS fat, he gambled and won stats while the team lost games. Herm has no interest in getting him back, nad neither do Jets fans.

Maybe he can help, but I think mostly he wants to help himself. I don't think he will help this team as much as people believe.

I would rather say good-bye to a player one year early rather than one year late. So far it seems that we said good-bye to Ty exactly on time. I'd rather not have him here one year too late, even if we do have cap $$$ to burn.

Mike Haynes will be 53 this summer. Ty Law just turned 32. He was fat and gambled last season because he was in a scooter until May and couldn't run until June and didn't get signed until halfway through TC's and he was being coached by the Herminator. BTW Tedy Bruschi will be 33 in June and returned from a stroke at 32 (good thing too), and Rodney Harrison will be 34 before the regular season ends - and we can only hope he makes it back from the potentially career ending ACL/MCL/PCL trifecta.

Herm is very interested in getting Ty back in KC. His reputation as a defensive coach is about to be put to the test. Having two pro bowlers in his secondary could only help. Mangini hoped he would renegotiate and stay with the JETS because he has issues all over the place, but Ty didn't want to (renegotiate or spend another season on that team). Ty has always been self centered, not an uncommon trait in professional sports. Didn't hurt his play for this coach because BB valued the talent enough to work at convincing him to drink his coaching koolaid. And he did. Herm himself wasn't nearly as savvy an X's and O's coach, more a motivational players coach (actually a former DB himself) who alternately feeds your ego to encourage performance and points a finger at you if that fails.

And considering how much cap money we have to burn (literally as well as figuratively) I'd rather have a Ty Law here one year too late than go through another season like last season with Duane Starks, no-show Ty Poole, and the ghost of Asante Samuel. I want Hank Poteat on only one roster this season - the shadow roster. If he's healthy I think Ty Law has one or two seasons left in him at corner with Pro Bowl potential and then possibly a few more at safety with perhaps that same potential. If he's lost a step I think he still has four years left as a potential pro bowl safety. And if he doesn't it's only money - most of which he'll never see. Before the injury, but also before the cap went up by 20%, BB was willing to pay him $5M per year in 2006 and 2007 because he likely saw similar potential going forward.

And the great thing about Belichick is he will play the best player at the position. If Ty comes back and bumps the rest of them down the depth chart it will be because that is where they should be playing. If they want their former jobs back perhaps stiffer competition will push them all to play consistently better.

i love rodney but law is the key if harrison cant make it till second half of the year he had a major injury

You didnt watch good enough because the Eagles had almost 400 yards passing and McNabb had 3 TD passes. IF you call that playing well then I dunno what you were watching at all.

Maybe you should watch it again and notice that Gino and Gay went out with injuries in that SB Game. And, TO's big play came on an illegal pick from Mitchell.

Stat's can be decieving if you don't care to look how those stats came about. I was also referring to all three games not just the SB game. That is why the DVD is called 3 Games to Glory III.

"Didn't watch good enough" my ass.

How do you feel about Clayborn's last season with the Browns?
Are you trying to compare Raymond Clayborn to Michael Haynes? Clayborn was 35 years old and left unprotected by the Patriots, kinda like Willie, both are true Patriots who did what they had to do. Haynes was a big mouth showboat who jumped ship like Law. Clayborn spent 2 yrs. in cleveland so what's the deal with the last one? I'm old and forget a lot of stuff.

Stats are for baseball, in which 18 men play a series of one-on-one encounters.

In football, stats hide poor play. Sacks are the worst stat. A DE can get a lot of sacks if he ignores containment responisibility and charges the QB every play. He doesn't get a stat if the RB flashes past him to the outside and breaks it for 35 yards.

INTs are the second worst stat. The way to get a lot of INTs is to gamble a lot. If you leave your man and jump a nearby route, fans will not even blame you for the TD, but will pick on the nearest DB.
