Watching this kid, I can't believe he'll be a LB in the NFL. Just too tiny. Might be a great strong safety, though. He could fall to us in round 2.

Can't be smaller than Vilma-head can he?

He's about 235, Vilma is maybe 230. He's more a 4/3 linebacker though.

After saying Lofa Tatupu was too small for an NFL linebacker. I will never say that again about a player.

Good eye. But i think taking him at 21 would be a massive reach. He would be a great fit but at the same time you could get him in the middle of the second.
I'm not sure he'll be there in the middle of the second but it's a deep draft, who knows. Like I said on the draft thread, this guy just cries out for Belichick to want him even though he's not the biggest or fastest LB.

If they were to draft him at 21 then Mel Kiper, berman and company would be stunned for words at usual.

My bad, BF... every other day or so I remember we have a draft forum.
Post there, damnit - it's self fulfilling, the more posts, the more people will go there, the more people will post, etc

Protegee for Bruschi?

It works for me. I've already predicted the Patriots would draft him weeks ago, though now I think they'll go for Bobby Carpenter. A lot of what the Pats do is disinformation--get people thinking they are interested in a player in order to facilitate trades or make panicky people panic. Remember the Jets a couple of years ago and Dwayne Robertson of Kentucky? Played them like a Stradavarus.

I much prefer a stud inside linebacker to a fleet runner from Minnesota who ran behind a good offensive line and system. Laurence Maroney is not a Larry Smith.

Somehow the UCLA runner, Maurice Drew, the midget Earl Campbell, might be an enticing prospect in the second round. He's a poor man's DeAngelo Williams. I don't think the Fresno CB, Richard Marshall, will be available for the Pats at the position in the Second Round. Some drafts have them going for him then.

Sounds like he is very much a BB/SP type player, at least according to this report:
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/olb/demecoryans.html
Strengths:
Very smart and incredibly instinctive with top football intelligence...Is like an extra coach on the field...Plays faster than he times...Is very aggressive and a sure tackler...Does all the little things...Has been extremely productive throughout his career and seems to always be around the action...Versatile and could potentially play any of the three linebackers positions...A hard worker and team leader.

Maurice Drew has been cllimbing the draft charts. He is a clone in size to Kevin Faulk, at 5-8 and 207. ( Barry Sanders was 5-8 210) too). He catches the ball like a wide receiver, again like Kevin faulk. PFW has him rated as the best Punt Returner candidate in the country too. Seems to me that is a 'hole" with the departure of Dwight and the ageing of Troy, making him "versatile".

He is a good character, plays to the whistle, hard worker. There are a couple of things he is in which not like Kevin though. At this time he is only average in blitz pickup, but Kevin was that way coming out. That is a skill that can be coached if you are willing to work, as Kevin was, and Mo might be.

The other thing that Mo has that Kevin doesn't is that Mo runs a sub 4.4 forty while Kevin was more of a 4.7 -4.8 guy. So while Kevin has good speed, Mo has great speed.

BB likes "versatility". BB likes hard workers and good citizens. If you had to do so, I suppose you could back up Dillon by using a pair of Kevin Faulks rather than the one they tried to (over) use in Denver. It could be draft the big back in 2007; draft the small, 3rd down back this year. It also fits withthe rebuilding of the ST tha tBB/SP seem to be doing, by replacing the kicker, gunners, returners, et cetera...

He looks like he has what the Pats are looking for. When people talk about too small for the NFL at linebacker, I think of Sam Mills.

I do know BB talked to Mike Shula alot during the Senior Bowl. Ryans was thought to be a 7-15 pick when the mocks first started coming out. Was a very good player in college. And we shouldnt always just look at size, if the guy can play football the pats will pick him. And when the Pats bring these guys in I think they have genuine interest, their not going to waste their time brining in players just to throw other teams off.
