This New Yorker article complaining about NBC's dumbed-down coverage is well worth reading and will certainly make you a more-informed viewer.

Includes nice Belichick reference:

Good article. I enjoy watching traditional gymnastics, and I agree that this team should be given their well-earned praise. But, let's be honest -- most people just want to enjoy the show, not learn the particulars of the moves and the techniques. The announcers are sticking to a tried and true formula. I'm not going to rag on them too much.

Personally, I'm far more partial to tricking, largely because it captures the power and explosion that traditional gymnastics tries to subdue or beautify. While the precision and perfection of an Olympic routine is incredibly impressive, I love the freedom and creativity of tricking:
