With time running out in the half against San Diego, Lane Kiffin chose to try to kick a 76 yard field goal, into the wind. Guess he wants to coach somewhere else.

Wouldn't you if you were him?

As I said in another thread, the odds of him being the Raiders' head coach by November is about as good as making a 76 yard field goal anyway. Why not try it? The Chargers would have had to block the kick and recovered it in the end zone orpicked it up and ran for a TD for it to backfire on him.

Who cares? It's not like he had any other options that had a higher chance of success...

Did they make it?

Thats awesome.

The Raiders will always be a joke as long as Al Davis stays there.

Davis probably phoned the play in from his diaper changing room.

Perhaps it was somewhat of a statement?
Even though it happened before Kiffin got there, don't forget that Al Davis took Janikowski in the first round of the draft a few years ago.

"If we make this I will be seen as great for such a play and how do I lose on it I will be fired soon anyway. I know this polish guy has a powerful leg he kick long we might win!"

chargers looked like ass today, i still can't believe they won

It was with 1 second left in the 1st half. I dont think it's that bad of an idea. I mean, he could either take a knee or go for a 76-yarder. The only thing you'd have to worry about is them returning the ball, but if you're the raiders you need all the points you can get.

NFL Game Center: Play-by-Play - San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders - 2008 4

Timeout #3 by OAK at 00:01.
3-2-OAK 42 01) 11-S.Janikowski 76 yard field goal is No Good, Center-59-J.Condo, Holder-9-S.Lechler. 31-A.Cromartie at SD 2 to SD 28 for 26 yards (86-T.Stewart).

It was with one second left, because they let the time run down. The commentators were saying well before the kick that the Raiders could have thrown a pass, plus they had a timeout to use. Sure, he could have totally eclipsed the longest field goal ever because he was not in a dome, kicking on grass, and had wind in his face.
Happy B'day Harrison.

Did you watch the game? They had a time out and thirty seconds and another down to try and get closer. It made no sense and didn't even come close to making it. It was a waste of effort. Even if they didn't try for a nearly impossible field goal, they'd have had a better shot at a pass interference call.

It was one of many coaching blunders I saw today. Crennel's clock management nearing halftime was nearly as bad.

The call was fine and there was little risk. More coaches should try stuff like this vs going by the proverbial book. I know for a fact Seabasss can hit from 70ish so why not try it.

Laughable....I wonder how long Kiffin will be there...NEXT..........

Shouldn't you be doing your homework?

Note: The ball fell well short and a player attempted a runback. It wouldn't have been the first time a TD was scored on a failed kick. No, he could not have made that kick and the coach knew it, that is the bigger question.

I really could care less either way about the decision but he has made them in practice from 70+ yards - not consistently by any stretch but he has made them.
