Mitchell to IR

Safety Mel Mitchell will be placed on injured reserve today, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said at his press conference today.

Mitchell, who was expected to be a core member of the Patriots' special teams units, suffered a biceps injury last Thursday. Being placed on IR means he's lost for the season.

Also, Belichick said he expected to have a few players who have been sidelined back on the practice field this afternoon. The identity of those players should be known later in the day, when the team hits the field for its 2:30 p.m. workout.
