Pro Bowl kicker Nick Folk had surgery to repair a right hip labral tear, the team announced Wednesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Marc Phillipon in Denver, Colo.
Folk is expected to be able to resume light kicking work in eight weeks and perhaps full kicking work in 12 weeks.
Folk, a sixth-round draft choice in 2007, became the first Cowboys rookie to be selected to the Pro Bowl since Emmitt Smith in 1990. He scored a club rookie record 131 points while making 26 of 31 field goals and 53 conversion kicks.
The kicking duties will now fall to rookie David Buehler, a fifth-round pick out of USC.
