Jets Jermaine Cunningham in trouble with the law (not Ty)

third degree criminal mischief for the destruction of clothing? What does that even mean?

For his first year or two here, I was pretty well convinced that he was going to be a good player for us. Bummer.

This is the one draft miss surprisingly above the rest that really bothers me. For the fact that the very next guy, Carlos Dunlap, who was from the same school, and played the same position, was drafted one pick later and has had a way more successful career.

Pretty common for folks in these domestic incidents to slice up/burn the SO's clothing. Btw, this wouldn't even be a blip on the radar back in Gainesville. Cops wouldn't even give Urban a call for anything less than a double murder.

I think there's been a very positive change in the Pats' approach to drafting DE/OLBs since Cunningham: they've finally zeroed in on the elite physical specimens, with less regard to college production and level.

Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins, Michael Buchanan and Zach Moore lacked the college football bona fides of Cunningham, Crable et al, and it just didn't matter. That position calls for athletic freaks.

And, conversely, the highly-accomplished Michael Sam can't stick in this league.

Cunningham was a bummer. Wish he'd panned out (or that pick in that slot would have).

Every single team has a long list of failed picks though - even if some around here hate BB the GM.

might want to send him over to jon bones jones as well.

This is what happens when players become a Jet.

Changed thread title as it has nothing to do with the player mentioned.

stop trying so hard to find the perfect patriots prototype.......and just find someone who is good

dont have to be the perfect fit and perfect character (bruschi).....just have to meet a certain threshold in fit and character......i.e., not Hernandez

Goodell will intervene, suspend him, and Cunningham will appeal.. and the arbitrator will lessen the sanction, then Goodell can say the arbitrator did it...

Has he been free of misconduct for 32 games???

It was a joke not intended to upset anyone. It was not a negative implications towards Tebow. It is just mind boggling to me that Tebow was on the same team as some of these players. Talk about 2 different sides of the spectrum in life. Anyway I apologize if my thread title was taken offensively as it was not my intent.

Happy new year and go Pats!!

FWIW, that's not what I meant at all. What would possibly suggest that Chandler Jones is lower in character than Jermaine Cunningham??

AFAIK none of the Pats' athletic marvels had sketchy off-field backgrounds. What they had was questionable football accomplishments -- low levels of competition, or uninspiring production -- compared to their measurables. At some positions measurables are overrated, but at DE/OLB they're good predictors of NFL success.

I recall the game against Baltimore where he ran through, around, and schooled Oher. I thought he was gonna be a Pro-bowler. lol

Sounds like a lovers spat, I wouldn't call it criminal yet based on that article.

What really bothered me about this pick wasn't so much that Dunlap was taken immediately afterwards - he also had character issues & was a pure 4-3 DE when our defense was still 3-4 - as much as it was that we needed a WR (some things never change) and there was a Charlie Weis-trained, top-40 talent ripe
for the picking, and Bill - as he too often does in the 2nd round - blew it.
If we had Golden Tate from 2010-2013, we win at least two more AFC titles, including one more SB.

He is a UFA...we can sign him for cheap. No?

Let's sign him so he can get 0.5 sacks in the next 16 games.

No thank you. This is one of the bigger busts of the BB era, because Cunninghams teammate who played the same position (Carlos Dunlap) went the next pick after.

And pretty much EVERYONE had Dunlap rated higher than Cunningham, but the Pats still chose to go with Cunningham. I know there are always going to be busts, and the Pats have had success going against the grain before, but this one is particularly bitter because we needed a DE/OLB desperately during those years and BB heavily scouted that entire team and still missed on this pick.
