How did Asante know to break on the ball to intercept Palmer/Johnson?

He followed the money trail

All the jokes aside, that's what we'll miss if he leaves. Just like Ty Law he has developed that uncanny instinct to know where the ball is going to be more often than not.

On the play, Asante had Johnson blanketed and he broke to the left and intercepted Palmer... was that the scheme or did Asante know Palmer was going to throw to the left based on film study? I don't think he could've seen Palmer's eyes the way he was facing...
Radio transmitter in the helmet, guys in the booth knew the play, relayed it down and out to Samuel just in time.

Actually, I think BB called his name, he turned to look, and saw the ball heading his way.

Duh, Isn't it obvious? BB is like the guy on the TV show Heros that can hear other people thoughts.

It's clear to see that he "heard" Carson telling himself that he was gonna throw the inside route, while simultaneously hearing Ocho humming the MNF theme in his head and thinking about the outside route TD.

He then projected those thoughts to Asante, thus interrupting the constant loop of Pink Floyd's "Money" that runs though his head, and told him to break early inside.

Any other questions?.

He always had a nose for the ball BF. He used to drop a sh!tload of sure interceptions if you recall.

I think you guys are missing part of the equation. COACHING.

This is about BB studying film and coming up with a game plan for his guys to execute. He is always telling them to take away the favorite passing plays. Chad and Palmer have run this play before, and Chad just didn't get to the right spot but Asante did.

Not to take anything away from any of our players, but this is what they are coached to do. This is the thing that seperates us from them. COACHING.

Is Asante a solid CB? Sure. Would BB have coached another player to make this play and get in the way of an obvious passing pattern with safety help? You bet.

Take a good player and make him study the exact tendencies of another team, and set up the safety help, and let the player take it from there.

Not much happens by chance in a BB defense. That is why ex-players often want to get out of the confines of the system, make big money, and try to prove that it was all about them, not the system.

I think you are selling the players short. Coaching and system are obviously critical components to an individuals success but so are athleticism and instincts.

The Patriots paid Samuel $7.7 million for a reason, he can play. If they thought he was 'solid' they would have let him walk.

Our secondary is a strength of the team, contrary to previously help beliefs. They also had a great year last year. Lets hope that everyone stays healthy enough that we don't have to assign Eric Alexander and Antrell Hawkins to Dallas Clark again this year.
