Good news! Jerry "The Beaver" Mathers picked the Pats. So we have that going for us.... which is nice.

The bad news, Haley Joel Osment picks the Giants. I wouldn't care normally, but since he sees dead people he might have some kind of inside edge on predictions.

This is getting out of hand. Now people aren't just picking the Giants, but picking them to blow the Pats out of the water. Man do these things snowball.

You know.. NFL is a gamble sport and whenever there is gambling involve. Somebody have to control the game. And there isn't anybody else control the game other than Vegas. The more people pick on the Giants to win (more bet = loss), the better chance the Pats will win the game.

I'm fine with where we sit in the eyes of the media. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The problem is that the media momentum is all about hype. The reasoning, that epic defense with a more epic pass rush, is not true. This team gives up points. We played a damn good defense, probably number 2 to the 49ers, in the AFC championship, and our offense moved the ball almost at will. Tom never plays as well as he does when he feels that his reputation is on the line. If it wasn't before JPP's comments yesterday, it is now.

This game is decided by how our defense manages against their offense. This D has a point to prove. Hold them to field goals and force an error or two by Eli, and this one is ours.

I noticed that too. If Vegas was strictly trying to get a balance between the two teams the line would have dropped more by now until it got close to 50-50. If they did that though the sharps would swoop in and jump on the Pats as a pick or plus one. I don't doubt they'll still do that; they'll just be patient and wait till the last moment in hopes of getting the best line possible from one casino that flinches.

Another thing to keep in mind: I read somewhere that Vegas has only lost money on the Super Bowl twice in the last 21 years. I like the odds of the team that is only getting 35% of the action based on that history.

One last thing to consider: who knows more about this game: the professional handicappers, or the so-called experts at BSPN, NFLN, and the New York newspapers?

I would add that I heard an interesting piece on NPR, of all places. The reporter pointed out that if the line were to move to 2 1/2 then "the sharps" would take the Pats -2 1/2 (as you pointed out) because most of them have the Giants at the original line of +3 1/2. So what you end up with is a Pats 3-point victory (hmmmm, any Super Bowl precedent for this?) means that these bettors win BOTH bets.

My father-in-law was in Vegas last week for business. I've got the Pats to win, pays $72 (minus the bet) on a $40 bet. As you can see, I'm a REALLY high stakes guy

Vanilla Ice said he wants the giants to win but he think the pats will. Mike and Mike both picked the giants but greeny said he notices everyone is picking the giants and usually that means the other team will win. Stephen a Smith picked the giants, skip bayless picked the patriots (with bjge being mvp), they both noted that mhk could be a powerful motivation for the pats since the team respects Bob so much.

I think the Patriots will start this game in a power formation with Benjarvis and Hernandez in the backfield, the way to shut this arrogant d line up is to constantly punch them in the mouth and you do that by running the ball right up the belly of the beast, after about 5 plays going for 5 plus yards, you fake a pass that will have the gassed defense on it's heels and lull them to sleep with a end around to a forgot man like a Julian edelman for about a 16 yard gain then you keep running out the power formation til you reach the goal line at this point in time you bring it Woodhead who has the burst and just enough toughness to punch it in from the 3, then while their making their adjustments to stop the power run game, you come out 4 plus wide and kill them with quick timing routes, Hernandez for 5 yards, Underwood for 8, Edelman for 3 so and so on, then keep running the ball, I really think the fact being overlooked here is if we can run the ball with power right up the gut, we negate that great pass rush, lull the team to sleep then hit them for a big one I don't think JPP is great at containing the run so they will substitute him out a play or two if we are consistent with this run game.
Thats when we change the play and send a Edelman or a Underwood, Slater deep and give Brady enough time for the play to develop with their best pass rusher gassed on the sideline, with a healthy Vollmer we have great depth all around the line and can keep our guys fresh the key is to keep firing hard at these defensive lineman take the aggressor mentality and we see something like a 21 to 6 patriots lead at the half.
I think what makes Belichick so happy is what he's seeing from the run game in practice and does anyone here not think he's taken Ridley aside and taught him ball security these last few weeks?
Our Superbowl MVP might not be a Quaterback or a receiver how about the Law Firm or Ridley? With Brady playing a style of offense very similar to 2001 where he manages the game but we rely on quick controlled safe passes and a heck of a run game and i'm all for that.

...and it's because of this fact that you should be supremely confident. If we've learned nothing the past 10 years it is the fact that the Patriots play their best in this role. When they are "disrespected" (even if they are not truly disrespected). They just seem to play better with a chip on their collective shoulder.

By who? The media? Last week they were and played far from their best at home against BAL. The players? See Jets game at home last year. I just think if they play their game regardless of anything they pull it off.
