FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Dolphins reach deal with free-agent safety Wilson

FOXSports.com has learned Gibril Wilson has agreed to contract terms with the Dolphins. Further details weren't immediately available.

Wilson became available when released by Oakland, an unexpected move considering he was signed to a six-year, $39 million contract in March 2008. Wilson finished last season as Oakland's second-leading tackler with 129. Wilson, 27, spent his first four seasons with the New York Giants and was a starter on the team that defeated New England in Super Bowl XLII.

He was cut, so he is free to sign with whoever, whenever he wants. Had his contract expired, then he would be restricted from signing elsewhere until tomorrow.

I think this is another good move for the Fins, provided he didn't cost them too much.

Dolphins agreed to terms with SS Gibril Wilson on a five-year, $27.5 million contract. The deal includes $8 million in guarantees.

Not extremely cheap

$8 million guaranteed isn't too bad. I wonder if there is funny money in the last one or two years. I also wonder if this effects Yeremiah Bell at all.

Too bad. I would have liked to see us make a run at Wilson. Knew it wasn't in the cards, though.

you do know a player who is cut, is different from a player who still belongs to their team till free agency hits...don't you? lol
