How would you all feel with four linemen in the first four picks or at least in the top 75? I certainly believe that the top 64 provides many choices at DE, OG and OT.

One could argue that the 10 OT's don't provide value in the first 2 rounds. While I would agree that none provide top 10 value, ten OT's might be drafted in the first two rounds (the top 5 plus Gilbert, Franklin, Carpenter, Cannon and Pinkston). At least some of the 10 might provide value when we draft or at positions that we can trade into.

I could go along with it, both sides of the line need help...bad

There are about 20 OL's who might be drafted in top 75. We might even get an OC prospect later, but as was the case last year, such a player might not beat out Wendell and Ohrnberger. Heck, as I recall, Ohrnberger didn't even make the 53 last year.

There are also 20 or so DL's, but their value is concentrated even earlier than the OL's, with almost 20 in the top 50.

This is a year where we need linemen, quality linemen are available early. AND, we have 5 picks in the top 75.

Some talk about the difficulty in making the top 53, or in having too many young linemen. My guess is that if there is a short camp, that there will be roster exemptions or even roster expansion for the 2011 season. This will celarly be necessary if there is no camp.

In my mind, after a stud QB, the next most important positions are the linemen. You can never have enough good D Linemen and whenever you get a chance to take one that projects well into your scheme you should always go for it.

I can see as many as ten DE/DT's going in the first round and as many as five OT's going in the first round. Over half the teams could wind up with line help.

For all the talk about Fairley dropping, when I look at a Ron Rivera 4-3 defense, I can not help but think that Fairley is the perfect DT for that defense. If Carolina takes a QB instead of Fairley, they are only doing us a huge favor.

When you think about a John Fox defense, I think of big space eaters in the middle of the line and super athletic DE's. In my mind Quinn or Bowers seem perfect for the Broncos at #2.

That leaves Buffalo to snatch up Dareus at #3. What a gift from heaven they get.

So in my mock the first three players are D Linemen. Although in real life I think Carolina is zoned in on Newton.

I would like to see us take at least three linemen with our first four picks.

And I like your idea of competition among Orhsberger and Wendell against a rookie or two. Although I thought Wendell played pretty good in the season finale. He looked better than Connelly from what I saw.

As of now, I see the interior as
Mankins, Koppen, Connolly
Wendell, rookie, rookie

Depending on the rooks, they also could also double our 4th OT.

Light, Vollmer and Kaczur seem to be our OT's, plus Maneri or a rook.
=================
While we normally carry 9 offensive lineman, I think that 10 will be right for this year. Unless there is a normal camp, there should be roster eemptions for rooks or roster expansions for this season.

BOTTOM LINE
I would like to see 3 rooks added.
