These are my guesses for the Pats this weekend.
1st round. I think we use one and trade one moving back to the 2nd and getting a 1 next year, like the Boller deal. (I do think that is an excellent trade, so it may be hard to find a partner. I wouldnt be against a 2 plus a 2 next year if its a high 2)
I think with the one we keep, we are going Safety. Nelson would be ideal, Merriwhether or Griffin.
I think we moved around within the 2nd 3rd and 4th, and will end up with a corner and a LB. With one of those picks I would love to see us draft Troy Smith. He has a Brady-like mentality and level-headedness, a good arm, and a track record of being a winner.
4 6th round picks, what to do?
BB will make these choices expecting everyone of them to make the team.
I think DB makes sense, late round DB sticking and helping on s/ts seems to work out. An OL makes sense, we have a good track record of late or undrafted OL sticking on the ps and developing. LB is another possibility here, because of the ability to play on s/ts, and the typical abundance of "tweener' OLB/DEs that are available late with one flaw that needs to be worked on.
I think RB also gets addressed in the 6th. For what we need a RB for next year, there are a ton that COULD fit the bill. Someone will be available in the 6th that will be at least a good backup RB. I think we take a shot here hoping we hit the correct one.
Round 1 Safety
Round 2(trade down) CB/LB
Round 3 CB/LB or Troy Smith
Round 4 CB/LB or Troy Smith (Smith may well fall this far. I would not be shocked at all if we trade up near the top of 4 to get him if he is there at the end of day 1)
Rest of day 2:
A RB, A LB, A DB, mixed among guys who just seem too good to still be on the board by this point, regardless of position.
