I know that Rivers' apologists will find a way to blame this, once again, on the coaching or the defense or the play calling or the alignment of the stars or something else, but to me the game was Exhibit A of why Rivers will never be in the same class as Brady or P. Manning or, increasingly, Aaron Rodgers and should never, at this stage of his career at least, be considered seriously for Canton. Yes, he threw for 369 yards last night and yes his career Pass Rating is 95.9 and is "higher than [fill in the blank]'s" and his career record as a starter is 59--27 or 0.686, which is "higher than [fill in the blank]'s".
But, he just doesn't do what has to be done to win big games or games they should have (3--4 in the post season).
Last night, even after fumbling at the 15 with a chance for a chippy field goal to win the game (and no one...yet, at least...is saying that the fumble was on anybody but him, but I'm sure someone will look at the tape today and blame the center or the turf or maybe a groundhog), Rivers was offered redemption when the Chargers won the OT coin toss but he fumbled again, putting his team in a hole and leading to a three and out on their first possession.
If you want to make the case that Philip Rivers is in the same class as Brady and P. Manning or should go into the HOF, please get back to me after he at least gets his team to an SB.
