Are we all set at OL?

so, getting mankins wasnt a guy that bb thought could be excellent, while paying him his rookie contract?

This really isn't that difficult.

At the TIME, OG was a position of need. Of course Mankins could have been and now is excellent.

NOW, we are fairly deep at all OL positions, while we still have depth issues in the LB core and secondary. I'd much rather get someone who could be an impact player at these positions.

We had Brandon Gorin and Tom Ashworth starting for us during our Super Bowl runs. We've won it all with far less talent at OL in the past.

oh no, dont get me wrong
believe me, i was the first one in here (three yrs ago) saying we needed youth at linebacker
and i def want more youth at safety and maybe another corner
all i was saying was that it is short-sighted to think that we dont want the best at every position

We may want the best at every position, but I'd like to think we're realistic enough to know that's impossible.

I roasted Light after his pitiful performance in the 2nd Miami game against Taylor but he did a great job in the SD and Indy games and was a legitimate semi-pro-bowler. Mankins/Koppen...nuff said. Neal? excellent in pulling trapping and on screens and draws..not so great at straight-ahead 1on1 blocking. RT? Kaczur is great for pass protection and OC excells in run blocking. They love the Guard they just resigned (whose name escapes me) and Hochstein is a proven vetran G/C. So are they all set? yeah I guess so. But I can't help thinking about O'Neil and what a difference he made to SD...dominated Seymore and made the all-pro team as a rookie. So if there is a possible all-pro OL at any round, I guess we have to go for it.

well sure its impossible
but u still strive for perfection always
why set standards below the sky u know

To use a baseball analogy, the Pats have an OL that is stocked with solid #2 and #3 starters; if a potential ace should show up in the draft, I'd be delighted if they grabbed him. Most of those guys are gone before pick 15 though, so its hard to get.

That seems like a pretty fair analogy. I'd also rather have a team of #2 starters than a team with one #1 and a bunch of #5s.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the consensus that are OL is strong and deep going into next season and long term.
