This point seems to get forgotten around here, just ask the Dolphins, Denver,49er's, Cowboys, etc....It is obvious that in most cases great teams have Star QB's. All this talk about the system and staying competetive is fine, but also isn't realistic with the NFL.....When you have a guy like Brady, you surround him with Talent while he is in his prime and you go for as many Championships as you can...That simple. All this, " What...Do you want us to overpay for every player" "We'll be like the Redskins, or the Cowboys.......Wrong....Those teams haven't had a QB like Brady so they have tried to overload every where else with Talent and it hasn't worked. We have the Star QB, the premier player in the game, who knows how long Brady will last, but right now, he is in his prime....And what do we do, ...we say we have a system, so that we can be competetive for the next 10 years, and we take away his talent. We take away the one WR he trusts and has Chemistry with. In doing so we actually shorten significantly our run at SB rings. I mean people are dillusional if they think that average QB's routinely deliver to the SB...It is the rarity. When Brady is gone we could wait for a long time to find a capable trigger man. Any Football fan can span back to when they first started watching and see what happens when that Premier QB leaves. We should have kept Brtanch, and our attitude as an organization should have been to surround Brady with the Talent, not value, and when his days are over see what the Tally of Lombardi's was......not Kraftingly develop a value system that will keep us competetive for 10 yrs. By the way with the Salary Cap, I believe the Pats could have done both....

Have to disagree. If you pay Branch you will have 3 other guys sitting out next year. It would never end, plus I do not think having Branch would have won us the game tonight.

I don't think we can win without Branch.

I agree with you and everybody else that this season and perhaps Brady's whole career is done.

If you start rooting for Seattle now, you can catch the prime years of the irreplaceable Neon's career.

I know his 23 yds. receiving would have spelled the difference for us today.

The faster you guys bail on the season, the more whine free Patriots games we'll have.

We have possibly the best QB in NFL history and we are screwing him big time.

2006 is our BEST CHANCE to pick up our 4th Lombardi.

We have one of the EASIEST SCHEDULE to get our homefield advantage.

But we screwed this up big time.

Replacing Ty Law with Duane Starks cost us one Lombardi.

Replacing Deion Branch with Doug Gabriel is going to cost us another Lombardi.

Exactly. It's easy to say we should have just paid Branch and gone for it all while Brady was here. However, that could have very easily led to a chain reaction of players deciding they should do the same thing. What if Ty Warren decides that Seymour isn't worth $50 million more than him and holds out? Jarvis Green is a good player but the very first time a team gains a yard on his side, people will start ripping the front office for letting Warren go. The same with Samuel, Koppen, Wilson, etc.

Cap space fades very quickly when you start paying players more than they're worth.

Your opinion means nothing because 30 minutes ago Brady was over-the-hill and it was time to start Cassel.

Please leave.

Just point them to the cliff. They're all ready to jump.

Brady is definitely not a "star" QB - mediocre is more like it. His QB rating today was 80, a little better than the first two games. This seems to be the direct result of McDaniels poor QB coaching, although it also appears Brady is slowly losing arm strength to make the really deep passes.

You can sympathize with Brady for getting very frustrated - Charlie Weis was obviously a very good QB coach and he helped make Brady the star that he once was. The Pat's should at least provide Brady with a good QB coach.

Mikey, I get annoyed with a lot of people, and I have been kind of a jerk lately, but I try to steer clear of getting personal. However, you are as close as I come - this is an idiotic, IDIOTIC post.

The idea that "replacing Ty Law with Duane Stark cost us one Lombardi" is beyond stupid, in multiple directions. Ty Law BARELY played in 2004. We lost in 2004 WAY more b/c of the offense and injuries than Ty Law/Duane Starks. You are fast becoming the Queen of Asinine on this board.

I always thought you were a little wacked lobster, but apparently you are certifiable.

We'll see how Brady and the wide receivers are doing in week 10. If they don't have it together by then then it could be a long season. But losing a game against a very good defense is not the end of the world. Suck it up!

Really? I thought that all the injuries in the secondary (Ty Poole, Duane Starks, Randall Gay, Rodney Harrison, Chad Scott, Guss Scott - All on the IR, and James Sanders in and out) as well as missing Seymour, Bruschi, Light, and Koppen were the reasons that the Patriots didn't win the Lombardi last year. Not to mention Special teams gaffs by Ellis Hobbs and Troy Brown. Oh and the worst officiating in history.

I guess you were sleeping. Deion Branch chose not to come back to the Patriots. The Patriots WANTED him here. Branch chose to go else where because he thought he was better than Seymour and Brady. Both of whom had to play out their Rookie contracts even after their contract extensions.
