1998 might not be all that memorable for Pats fans, but it was in fact historic. For the first time in franchise history the Patriots reached the postseason three straight years. That year they posted a 9-7 record and finished fourth in a stacked AFC East. It was the teams fourth playoff appearance in five years.

I vaguely remember it. I used to be a HUGE Robert Edwards fan. It's really too bad what happened to him. He had such a promising future in this league.

So this far into the season we're reminiscing on the Pete Carrol years? Are we down to those now?

Why? I'm still trying to forget the Pete Carrol years.

I became a Pats fan when the picked up Tuna and Bledsoe so I wasn't paying attention during the 1-15 and 2-14 years. Pete Carrol was the worst coach the Pats had since I became a fan.

Edwards was the RB we picked up after Tuna poison pilled Curtis Martin for us and definitely looked like the real deal.

He was the last, home grown, real deal running back the Pat's had since we never really replaced Martin. He had a potential to be something special.

Like those years or not, they were a time in the history of the Pats. Reminiscing about them is to be expected in a 50th Anniversary year.

That's like saying the Great Depression was a time in history so like it or not, we're going to reminisce about it.

In these economic times, people "reminisce" about the Great Depression quite a bit. So that's not a very good example. Maybe we should just erase the entirety of Patriots history and just have our history as a team run from 2001-2004?
