I've tried with no success to learn which college programs run a 3-4 as their base. I know Maryland (Shawne Merriman), UNLV (Claridge, Seward) and Virginia use it, and Penn State, Kansas State and even Michigan use aspects of it. This isn't necessarily an advantage for the Patriots when drafting considering how unique and complex their defense is, compared to say, the Chargers. It can't hurt for potential draftees to have some familarity, especially for edge rushers.

Any other programs?

West Virginia runs a 3-3-5 defense.

I believe Marshall does also. In fact, they have a kid coming out (Josh?) Johnson, who's a 6-2, 250 lb ILB with 4.7-ish speed.

Primary 3-4 schools:

BYU, Ball St., Houston, Kent St., LSU, Maryland, Navy, Nevada, Notre Dame, Temple, Toledo, UVA

Schools that use a lot of 3-4:

Duke, Florida St., Iowa, South Carolina, So. Miss., UL-Monroe, UNLV
