The 2013 trade with the Nets is in retrospect one of the worst trades in NBA history, but at the time it was made most people thought the Celtics got the better deal but “only time will tell.” Mostly people thought the Celtics won simply because they had hit a wall, and basically got bailed out, but in terms of the actual player for draft comp value, there was not an overwhelming consensus that the Celtics hosed the Nets at the time. They got three first round picks and one swap, but keep in mind that this was for three players, not one player. On th surface, I agree what they got fir JB was not enough.
All Im saying is, its too soon to say Stevens/C's ****ed up.
You dont know all the details. None of us do.
Stevens has been one of the best.
You dont think he's earned the benefit of the doubt?
I will wait and see how it all shakes out and when Stevens speaks more on the subject. He probably has good reasons not to expand on the topic right now. We don't know all of the ins and outs.
But yeah, its knee-jerk imho.
Also, let’s remember that the Celtics could’ve picked players other than Brown and Tatum, which were the consensus. Better picks at the time and people would’ve probably forgotten all about the Nets trade if they had like Brandon Ingram and Markelle Fultz to show for it.
So I’m just saying all this stuff is kind of complicated and yes, it’s way too early to say the Celtics got ripped off here. For all we know, they could end up with two very high draft picks.
