Don’t Call Drew Bledsoe a Modern-day Wally Pipp

Always liked Drew. Glad to see he's doing well.

And it was clear to Drew that Tom had talent. This is what he said while in the hospital after the Mo Lewis hit:

When Mac arrived at Drew’s hospital room, he says, his son’s first comments didn’t have to do with his freak injury or future prognosis?—?not directly, at least. “The world’s going to get to see what a good quarterback Tom Brady is,” Mac remembers Drew saying about his backup, who had been drafted out of Michigan in the sixth round in 2000. “He’s gonna be able to sign a free-agent contract with any team he wants.”

Mac chuckles at how that sounds now. “Drew just didn’t ever think,” he says, “it would be with the Pats.”

To my mind, Drew's biggest problem (besides the inability to really scramble) was the inconsistent play of the O-Line. When they gave him time, actually held up the opponent for 3 seconds or so, Drew could find anybody. A lot of the time, it was Ben Coates, but that's no different than Brady to Gronk or Brady to Edelman.

Drew was then, and is now, a consumate professional, and I wish things had turned out better for him with the Bills or Cowboys.

Was not a Bledsoe fan after his initial years because I saw his fatal limitations, number #1 being not coachable to the way BB wanted the job done. And admittedly I was an early Brady's Lady (sic) starting at 2001 summer camp where he was clearly the best QB in camp. However, I really like the way Drew has enjoyed his family and made a success post football. He seems to be a really great person and father. That is far more important than anything football. I wish him the very best and love reading about his fine life. He's earned it.

I became a Patriots fan the year Bledsoe was drafted. He was, and still is, all class and a huge part of changing a losing culture in Foxboro
