Agree. Mayo is learning quickly. One thing that hasn't changed yet is that he's very approachable and may over-talk some questions, which is a welcome change after BB. But, he may learn that is all wasted energy. At least he shows the respect to the press and fans that are clamoring for info.
Guys, it's pretty simple. Mayo is not pulling a Jedi mind trick, it's just pretty standard business practice.
You first build repoire, you gain trust via common ground by caring about what they care about, then when the training phase starts you act like you're in it with them and you share in...
The more I think about this, the more I agree with the idea of Maye at 3.
Bottom line, you have ~5 WR's on a roster that are meant to rotate and play matchups.
So, if you spend the #3 overall on a good one, that's great, but that's always just 1 of 5 pass-catchers on the field (avg.)
Spending a...
We had Lowe at LT half the season. I think Okra would be better than that.
We all know how ego-driven a coaching staff can be when they sense disrespect. It might be a total over-reaction.
Even though I think Okra will be RT. Onwenu RG.
But who knows - Sow may return to RG and put your best...
I'm not sure Zappe will make it through TC. He was cut last year, and that was by the guy who actually drafted him.
If I had to guess (and my preference) is that Brissett, Rourke & Draftee will be the QB room this year.
And unlike we did with Mac, even if the Rookie "looks" ready, I think it's...
a good QB could win with this roster as is (maybe LT being the 1 final piece)
When Brady got the 2nd dynasty going he had:
Blount / Bolden
Edelman / Dobson / Amendola / LaFell
Gronk / Hooman
The weapons we have right now are better in total, but Gronk is unmatched, and Edelman was unique.
But...
If that happens, we have a major problem. Assuming we don't have a 1st or 2nd round draft pick to compete here as well.
If Zappe is the starter at any time this season, then the over-hyped "Mayo era" will end in 2 years.
There's no reason that he couldn't become a Tyreek-lite. If we're talking ceiling.
Will he (or anyone) be as unstoppable as Hill at his size, not likely. But, if he puts in the work and dedication, and the system puts an intentional focus on using him, he seems to have the knack for space and...
We have a bolstered roster, and some good FA moves. With a top QB, I think we could compete.
Main problem - not a lot of young depth especially on offense. It's a lot of middle-aged vets.
We're going to have to build via 2-3 straight A+ draft classes to really compete.
QB, WR, TE, RB - in...
Best FA WR fit for Pats - KJ Osborn.
Still young, very versatile. Won't demand a high-end deal. But could sign for 4yrs - develop into a long term #3.
Next - DJ Chark.
Good move. Guy has been old for 2 seasons.
We need some youth there, and Guy was a JAG too.
Should be fine in a rotation with Godchaux and Barmore (Ekuale & Pharms as backups)
So many hate the moves and re-signings of the Pats.
I actually think it's a good thing. Look, when Carroll left and BB came in, there was a LOT of the core team that stayed.
BB brought in some important FA's, but it was the core that wanted to fight and prove they belonged and carried that '01...
I would trade #3 to MIN for their 1st, 2nd & Jefferson.
That would give us the #1 WR, and still allow us to get Nix or JJ at #11
I've been all about trading down for Nix. This class may turn out a lot like the '21 QB class.
I think he's going to be as good as the "top 3" as a pro because he...
LOVE this move!
Been saying a major hidden need on this team is RB2. Gibson is a RB1b
Great signing for a 1-2 punch. He's very athletic, former WR, speedy but has power, versatile.
Wolf is nailing it so far.
So far Wolfy JR. has done good.
The knee-jerk would have been to start by overpaying your guys, or making some desperate moves or splashes to coax other FA's.
But he's been measured and fair with the deals.
I hope that continues once the cash starts flying. Don't overpay for mediocre or...
Okay, that adjusted yearly base salary is MUCH better than initial report of $11M/yr.
I mean, it should have been the deal given to Meyers last year, but Bourne is a very good #2, and a good team guy.
I love that this new regime is taking care of their core guys.
It seems as if they're doing...
I hope Zappe doesn't get comfortable. He'll probably stick around for TC.
But I'd rather see what Rourke has than Zappe (if we had to choose).
But, I suspect it'll be Brissett & a 1st rounder.
I really like the first 2 moves of the Pats prior to FA:
- Get a starting RT for $4M (Onwenu likely gone for top $)
- Re-sign your most consistent pass-catcher & starting TE the last 3 years - $9M
I think LT & TE will be drafted (1st/2nd & 3rd/4th round) respectively
