As you pointed out a few posts after this one, if the questions are all about Vrabel, it isn't fair to the players that are drafted, so Wolf will be the one speaking this weekend. This gets him out of having to get in front of the press for anything until training camp. It's hard not to see it as the reason (or a significant reason) for the decision.
So why could they not simply have Vrabel be here on Saturday and have someone else speak, citing the desire to focus on the players? You can just ignore any question not about a specific player, or have someone else do the press conferences entirely. That's why I don't see him leaving as any kind of cover from the media, but rather about trying to save his family.
There's zero difference between Vrabel being present tomorrow and having Wolf do the press conference, and him being gone tomorrow and having Wolf do the press conference.
