Vrabel working out Max I at ASU pro day

Thought I saw some conjecture somewhere that the Pats will be willing to move up in the 1st to secure the OL they want. Wonder if this is the guy.

Vrabel definitely has first hand information to make that decision.

Pats have to do their due diligence on every one in the range of 31. I personally think Iheanachor fits better into a zone-heavy offense rather than our gap-heavy (power) offense. With that said, I think he is also talented enough to sit behind Big Mo and then start next year. Blake Miller would be a much better fit as he is very similar to Big Mo, and extensive experience in power-blocking schemes at Clemson.

Edge is a more pressing need, plus taking a guy in the 1st just to have him sit on a bench for a year is not very exciting.

With that said, we could do A LOT worse than big Max.

This kid could be staring them in the face at 31, raw but athletic long big man with great tools. Might need to be coached up but has first round tools. Would be a solid pick.

It's not exciting, but it goes a good way towards building Maye a great OL long term.

An ideal draft for me would be Ineachor at 31, Malachi Lawrence in the second round, then trade up for Ted Hurst, although they would have to be pretty aggressive to get that done. And as much as I wouldn't want to do it they might have to move Douglas's or Boutte to get that done. I would prefer Douglass be the one to go, but I think Boutte is going to be difficult to sign.

He looks like the pick....but we need to make sure the teams right in front dont grab him....like the Jets or KC

Blake Miller is my favorite tackle around 31, the guy is really athletic, really strong and is just shy of having an 84" wingspan.

They could keep him on the bench waiting for his opportunity, which would arrive eventually and possibly quickly with Morgan Moses being old, Vera-Tucker being injury prone and Will Campbell still a question mark at tackle.

Edge is much easier to find than tackle. Teams don't let good tackles go. If you lock down tackle for the next 10 years, you do it. Pass rushers are always available in FA and trade. You need a RT next season.

Definitely not even close to being true. This is why top edges are always drafted before great tackles, just like they will be this year...

No, you are wrong, we don't "need" a RT for next season. Moses did a more than adequate job last year. Besides any rookie you draft at 31 will likely be someone you are drafting to DEVELOP, not start. If Max winds up being the pick, it will be as a depth piece in 26 with the ideas that he start in 27.

Remember, at 31 this is likely the 6th-9th best OLman prospect. No guarantees here (for anyone they pick. And they will be out of the 2nd level of picks (15-45) as well in the 2nd round. Much as I want an Edge rusher as a need, where we are picking (31 and 62) best player available regardless of need should be the primary rule. Whomever winds up at the top of their board when it is our turn to pick, THAT'S the guy I want, and let the chips fall where they may.

As Belichick said, if you draft for need and take the wrong guy, you've wasted a pick and still have a need.

The unstated corollary to that is, if you have a need and don't fill it in the draft, you still have a need that's now harder and/or more expensive to fill.

We don't currently have a need for RT in 2026, but OT is desperately thin, Campbell is coming off an injury, Moses is 35 and may not last the season, and RT is a critical need in 2027. Failure to "protect the Drake" cost us a SB, and should be the #1 priority, IMO. That makes OT at 31 a reasonable choice IF that player is worth the pick.

There are 7 OTs with top 40 grades. After that there is no one with a clear top 100 grade.

You should never reach far for a need, but given the importance of the position and the scarcity, if there is a highly graded player available he should get very strong consideration.
