Free Agent Safeties Available

Not sure if it's been discussed here, but Saunders has quietly been on the PS and signed to futures deal.
He has really good size and toughness. Seems like a bigger and more athletic Chung.
Could be part of the mix this season - you heard it here first.

I think it will come down to what it costs to sign any other FA safety, and what you get for that price tag. I’d see him being resigned, probably for 3 years with an easy out in year three, maybe even a tolerable way out after next year. Then hedge with a rookie.

It might be possible that Vrabes decides to let Hawkins go and roll with Pettus and Schooler plus a good draft prospect. But I suspect he’s more likely to hedge the bet by re-signing Hawkins for at least this year. Definitely expect we will draft a prospect at safety as well.

Those two are barely NFL players, never mind starting-caliber Safeties.

barely NFL players" simply points out how little you value STers.

Schooler is one of the best STers in the league.

Pettus is a good Ster and an OK #3 safety, although if we emphasized safety play more, he should be a #4.
