My Ridiculously Early Start on a 2026 Offseason Plan

Would like to go after a veteran LG like David Edwards fist to slot between Campbell LT and Wilson at C. If not Pregnon at 32 would work for me. Then use a 4th to trade up in the 2nd round for Thieneman. Grab Gabe Jacas in the 3rd. JC Davis as a swing tackle in the 4th.

This should be the FO's Plan A. Should've been Plan A this year too.

I thought Rham was good after he figured out how to hang onto the ball early in the season.

EDIT: I just realized I responded to a post dated early in the season when there was real doubt whether Rham could fix his fumbling issues. But credit him and his coaches, he did.

He's another one like Onemenu who, depending on their performances Sunday, might be worth keeping for another season now...

How does re-signing Chaisson factor into trading for Crosby? Do you see it as an either/or or doing the two together. Chaisson will obviously be significantly more expensive to re-sign than his current contract.

Don't know if there'll be enough resources left for other needs if both of them are here. I would think that re-signing Chiasson would be step one, while there still might be some sort of home-town discount available... After that happens is when they should cast their eyes toward Crosby...

BPA, but i would give edge..the edge.

Even if we signed a FA and re-signed Chaisson?

Yes!
Too important. the more the merrier.

Depends on how well the FO addresses the OL, i.e.: LG if they feel Campbell's their long-term starter at LT; a sounder alternative for backup (for now) RT instead of Jellybean & Mr Mumpsferd; and of course their own impending UFAs... If they actually do what needs to be done, then yeah maybe #64 on an ED wouldn't be a bad move at all; if they don't, then they might have to use their first two picks on OL, one for the inside and one for the outside...

I doubt they will have enough cap space, but my dream would be, in rough priority:

1. Re-sign K'Lavon Chaisson, Khiryis Tonga, and Jaylinn Hawkins
2a. Sign a UFA EDGE like Odafeh Oweh, Jaelen Phillips, or Boye Mafe. Trey Hendrickson will cost too much to allow for other needs.
2b. Sign a UFA IOL like Tyler Linderbaum or David Edwards
4. Sign a UFA LB like Quay Walker or Devin Lloyd
5. Extend Mike Onwenu, lowering his cap hit
#1 through #4 are great.

I am not a huge Onwenu fan. The Pats probably go forward with him, but I would prefer to try to fill that position another way, but changing represents a huge risk. I want to find a new RG with more mobility.

I would prefer to let Onwenu go and sign Edwards at LG and then target a RG in the draft. We survived rookie Wilson at LG this year, it can't get much worse using a draft pick on RG in 2026. We might get lucky and draft well and then everything is roses for 2026.

Was it a result of the injury he suffered this year because he seemed pretty explosive to me before it happened

Landry led the Patriots with 8.5 sacks and 19 quarterback hits. However, he suffered a knee injury this fall, which limited him as the season progressed. Over the last nine games, including three playoff games, Landry was limited by the injury. Despite playing through pain, the veteran still made three sacks in the final four regular-season contests.

In the playoffs, however, things did take a turn for the worse. Landry played 26 defensive snaps in the Patriots’ wild-card win over Los Angeles. The next week, against Houston, he managed only 11 defensive snaps.

It is reported that Landry's knee is "bone on bone". Edelman and Michel were reported as "bone on bone" as well. The reports on Edelman and Michel were correct. The player starts out great for about 6 or 8 games and then crashes.

He never should've played those first two PO games; they didn't need him vs either the Chargers' or Texans' OLs.

The only Patriot I saw on the list was Jaylinn Hawkins. No Chaisson in the top 50. But Clowney made it. Who would you rather have? (rhetorical question).

A lot of these will re-sign before FA kicks off. I don't know what we can afford. We can cut some players to create a lot of room for another big signing or two but I don't think Kraft will splurge in back to back years. Plus, we need depth but we have 11 draft picks to fill some needs. Should be an interesting off-season for the Pats.
