Here's highlights of the Bucs-Seattle game if anyone wants to watch...gonna post some thoughts on this later. I don't know if Seattle was missing anyone major defensively in that game.

Some initial thoughts on Bucs O vs. Seattle D:
  • - A lot of deep crossers designed to beat zone concepts
  • - Some Cover 2 hole shots
  • - Got Egbuka on a 50+ yard deep post starting from the left against single high safety where they moved the safety with deep routes to the right / Baker held him with his eyes
  • - Late in the game a lot of scrambling to throw by Baker, found his TE checkdown wide open uncovered as play broke down on one play, then a 1v1 scramble drill TD deep off an initial go route. We may need to lean on this more heavily than even Baker in this game (Diggs will be big in this area), particularly in the red zone as Seattle is super stout in this area. Drake running the ball may work if they give us man looks but for the season Seattle has been much more zone heavy even on third down (but again, not against the Rams - however I think they will play zone against us as we have a weaker offensive line than the Rams - you plan Man either when you think the other teams' receivers are overmatched and/or you need to buy more time for the rush to get home and/or you need to blitz more to get pressure - none of which should apply to Patriots)
  • - Some success in the screen game
  • - Almost no success in the run game, but got two goal line TDs by motioning TE to right creating very strong look to the right then pitching to RB out to the left where they leaked Wirfs (all-pro LT) out as a lead blocker
  • - Not a ton of underneath stuff relatively - most of the success was in the 10-20 yard throw area with some deeper shots mixed in
  • - Reasonable dose of play action mixed in even though run game was going nowhere...but most of Baker's success was coming out of shotgun spread
  • - Seattle played nickel looks even against base/bigger Bucs lineups and still stuffed the run pretty well. Seattle has big corners and safeties that tackle well so they can afford to do this
We don't have a single receiver playing as well as Egbuka was playing in the first half of the season but in composite we can recreate these types of plays. The Patriots receiving corp (including TE/RB) probably matches up pretty well with Bucs (pretty good and versatile but no gamebreakers) overall.

Do I think we can hang 38 on them? No - Baker was simply on fire in this game. But can we try to get to 20+ and hope we can pressure Darnold into mistakes? My initial thought is that is likely the game script we are aiming for. Drake can catch fire like Baker did but our offensive line likely won't hold up as well as the Bucs did (Wirfs was healthy). Go sling it Drake, let it rip and let the chips fall where they may. He's our best player and we should let him play free, mistakes be damned.

According to some stats. The Best defenses this year. #1 Broncos, #2 Texans, #4 Browns, #5 Chargers. Every Team the Pats played against this year and beat. You can also add in #7 twice as its the bills and #9 the Saints. How many teams can say they beat 6 of the top 10 defenses? Let alone 3 out of the top 5 in the playoffs.

Based on Points allowed:
Seahawks #1
Houston #2 (Pats beat) (Seahawks beat)
Denver #3 (Pats beat)
Patriots #4
Vikings #7 (Seahawks beat)
Jacksonville #8 (Seahawks beat)
Chargers #9 (Pats beat)
Rams #10 (Seahawks x2)
Bills #12 (Pats beat)
49ers #13 (Seahawks x2)
Browns #14 (Pats beat)

The Seahawks have beaten some tough defense as well. Including Houston.

If the Pats win… it was only Darnold they still haven’t beaten the 85 Bears or 00 Ravens so they can’t possibly be good.

JSN will eat Davis/Hawkins for breakfast and ask for more. You have to put Gonzo on him and Marcus Jones on Shaheed. Jones is the only one with the speed to stay with Shaheed.

I'm actually surprised the Seahawks didn't elevate Cam Akers for the game against the Rams..
I wouldn’t be surprised if Jones covers JSN with help- especially when JSN lines up in the the backfield. I think Shaheed and Kupp get a lot of single coverage from Gonzo and Davis

Nope, they only beat the 02 Bucs in three straight games.

Well, yeah, he led the NFL in receiving yards.
Did you see the one handed catch he made yesterday? Absurd.

The Gonzo - JSN matchup will be fascinating.

Could make Gonzo a lot of money

Gonzo is gonna make a lot of money anyway, and it wouldn't surprise me if they use Marcus on JSN a fair amount.

Kupp isn’t what he used to be. Putting Gonzo on him would be a waste. So you put Davis on Kupp.

I am not sure I like Gonzo against Shaheed. Do you remember how they defended Shaheed in the saints game?

With Charbonet, who had two TDs against Houston.
Vikings - they faced Brosmer. Only TDs were a defensive TD and Charbonet
Jags - That was legit. Two TD passes from Darnoldl. One to JSN and one to Kupp. Only scored 20 though
Niners - Smashed them in the playoffs at Home. Only won 13-3 in SF with Charbonet scoring the only TD and lost 17-13 in the opener with Charbonet scoring the only TD.

IDK - seems like its not that impressive sans the home playoff win versus the banged up Niners.

Would be great to see Hightower and Butler as honorary captains. If only one guy, it's a slam dunk to take Hightower. His play was bigger than Butler's. Much higher degree of difficulty. If Hightower doesn't stop Beast Mode, it's a td and Seahawks win, making Butlers play irrelevant.
I love Malcolms play but it wasn't as important as Hightowers.

We're off to a roaring start this week.

In 2 Saturdays, the national Talking Heads will have convinced people Seattle is the Greatest Show on Turf Rams, and the 85 Bears at the same time.

That number's going to be close to Seattle -7 before the sharp money comes in.

Seattle's a very good, balanced football team, and deserves to be in the Super Bowl.
Patriots have 2 weeks to figure out how to limit Smith-Njigba, because that's their offense. To me, that's what the game will boil down to.

JSN's RR and Separation skills are Elite; poetry in motion. I'm wondering if Gonzo can stick with him.

Seattle is the one I wanted. Trying to deal with all the weapons on the lambs would’ve sucked. Darnold still has time to fold in a big game

Bracket coverage. I think it’s more important to clamp Walker

Like so many boundaries, NoCal vs. SoCal is more of a social designation than a geographic one. Santa Clara is NoCal because the residents all consider it so.

I lived in that part of the world for years and there was always talk of dividing California into two states. Polls showed everybody was in favor of it, but it turned out that each individual was picturing their own unique border splitting the state along a line of "places I like" vs. "places that annoy me."
As a Southern Californian there is a clear distinction. SoCal starts at the border and ends at Santa Barbara (the city). Central Coast and Valley are from SB up to Monterrey.

NorCal is everything beyond that, though yes that’s a healthy amount of ethnocentrism from SF people to think the half of the state north of them is also just NorCal. Similar to how NYC people think the entire rest of NY state is upstate without any distinction (Catskills, Finger Lakes, Western NY, etc.)

haven't read all the earlier posts, but if we are in man, that would shock the hell out of me...

I hope to be wrong but I will be picking Seattle to win.
