Reactions to “The Dynasty”

I remember reading this (In defense of Bill Belichick benching Malcolm Butler in Super Bowl 52) after I went back and re-watched some of that Super Bowl and I think the writer gets a lot right, especially with regards to the stupidity of going with a 3-4 front. And I also agreed that Butler, at least by then, was not doing great on the type of receivers that the Eagles played.

Inserting Malcolm Butler was not any sort of guarantee that the Patriots magically stop the Eagles offense, especially if we going to start zooming in on his tackling ability, which has nothing to do with a RB running through the middle of the LOS which is what the Eagles did here.

That said, I still would've liked to have seen if Butler could have done anything as it was brutal watching that defense get shredded by Foles.

Once again, he deactivated Alan Branch for the game. Why????

If he was dead set against playing Butler - - even if someone like Slater was begging for him to come in the second half to "stop the bleeding", then why not fill that empty slot with Branch????

He kept TWO defensive starters off that field that night against a team that scored 41 points with Nick Foles. That sentence bears repeating.

I'm with you there... but it should be noted that Branch never played another snap, so maybe he wasn't ready physically for it?

Editing to add that Branch hadn't played since Week 14 (Dec. 11) of that regular season & missed both playoff games so it's unlikely he would've been up to game speed for that Super Bowl.

95% of the 20 year dynasty.

Timeline - - post 2016 he was on the way down and his GM actions were killing his coaching. He won it all in 2018, but they also lost Brady for 2020 and on. Over the 20 years I'd say he was great 95% of the time as a coach. His overall performance had peaked and was rapidly decreasing by 2017. What he did in SB 52 was startling bad.

BB was famous for cutting people before they started to lose it.
Anyone who wanted him fired for 2017 is dubious given what they did in 2018. We toss off Super Bowl victories like they're nothing.

Never Let The Truth Get In The Way Of A Good Story

Never Let The Truth Get In The Way Of A Good Story

Mea culpa - - I stand corrected about Alan Branch. Evidently he had knee issues and the Pats didn't pick up his contract option for 2018. By then he was a 33 yr old DT who had limited value on the FA market.

So blessed that my team had Belichick as the HC for the past quarter century. Wouldn't trade it all for the for a mere 4 SB's (which is what I tell smirky Giants fans who try to troll). But even Elvis got fat and sloppy in the 1970's. It happens. It's the human condition. Anyone getting pissy about people pointing out the obvious - that at some point even the greatest lose their fastballl - are fanboys/girls who just never grew up. Bill began to lose his fastball just after his greatest public moment in January 2017 - - the masterful Saturday afternoon press conference during Deflategate - he planted the flag and was brilliant. But since that when he couldn't keep Garropolo and had to accept Brady/Guerrero, things just started to wave - - with shards of old brilliance returning as in the defensive gameplan in SB 53 against the Rams.

In the meantime, I couldn't help myself on the "nobody works harder" meme, though - - it may be an inside joke in Foxboro. My guess is every time he said it in a presser, Ernie had to take him out to dinner. I like to think they would laugh their asses off over a good steak about it.

According to Zach Cox of NESN, Bill Belichick has said “Nobody works harder than” about the following players:
  • Tom Brady
  • James Develin
  • Brandin Cooks
  • Deatrich Wise
  • Derek Rivers
  • Stephen Gostkowski
  • Chris Hogan
  • Matthew Slater
  • Julian Edelman
  • Danny Amendola
  • Dion Lewis
  • Wes Welker
  • Jerod Mayo
  • Tim Wright
All those names are also from “A quick twitter search.”

All could be true, though. Those players worked equally hard and nobody worked harder.

How many Coaches can beat this resume?

3 SB wins as a Head Coach
1 SB loss as a Head Coach
5 SB wins as Defensive Coordinator
3 SB losses as Defensive Coordinator or Assistant Head Coach

With a good portion of the "Dynasty" focused on negative events, I wonder why someone wasn't allowed to call Bob Kraft a schmuck for soliciting prostitution at the Orchids Of Asia? Seems fair.

They just needed one, maybe two stops from Butler on 3rd down that they didn’t get with the personnel on the field. That’s it. Nobody expected him to be Deion Sanders in his prime out there.

Would have gotten those stops and the outcome would have been flipped.

Instead as we found out in this documentary Bill let a personal thing get in the way of what’s best for the team.

A ton of conjecture here leading to your conclusion. What seems "obvious" doesn't necessarily tell the full story, which we never will know until Bill Belichick goes on the record with his side of it.

Is it Gibbs? Walsh is only other one I can think of with 3 SBs and he was not a DC I assume.

Honestly I was embarrassed for Gronk when he acted like an idiot on draft day. Zero composure, totally non professional, childish.
This is easily the dumbest thing I have ever read on here.

Who are you to feel embarrassed for him? These kids work their asses off their entire life to make it to the NFL and when they finally realize their dream some keyboard warrior thinks he gets to decide how they should celebrate?

Joke.

It was an interesting series, and they obviously focused on the relationship between Bill, Brady, and Kraft.

When it comes to Bill, it’s almost like 2 different people are being looked at. In 3 episodes he comes off great, the 1st SB, the 08 season and the 2018 SB. When it comes to his treatment of Brady and the Butler benching, I have no problem with it. You had multiple players and the owner confirm what many had heard, the atmosphere in the building wasn’t good by 2016.

The one thing that I didn’t like is how they had the Globe reporter insinuate that Bill had some sort of responsibility with Hernandez. That was BS.
I agree about the Hernandez thing. To blame anybody but Hernandez for his own actions is disgusting and pathetic.

Nobody can actually point at anything "anti Bill" that was made up so people just get their feelings all hurt because some not so great things were stated.

It's funny how for years people would make up reaons about the Butler benching or getting rid of Brady and then all of a sudden oh that's nothing new. Amazing how people casually move the goal posts just to keep being their little denial bubble.

It's a fictional resume. Just curious where this would rank all time?

Sensitive about your man Gronk? Ouchie…
