One reason greatness and Tom Brady are one and the same? Brady aches when the offense isn't operating at a high level. Philip Rivers throws six picks in two games and sits over on the sideline almost cracking a smile.

Rivers is a "competitor" when he's playing well. When he isn't, the media gives him way too much of a pass. He looks checked out and that apathy seems to impact the rest of the team.

Mistakes and accepting mediocrity. That's the Chargers mindset these days under Rivers and his leadership. I don't care if the Chargers tie this up or not; Rivers just doesn't care enough about winning to be among the greats.

If (when) they lose this game, I can't see the Chargers competing for that final wild card spot. It's time to think to the future, since Rivers is keeping the Chargers just decent enough to be mediocre but never a real threat.

Yeah, no way Rivers should be in the HOF. 7 seasons missing the playoff, 5 seasons 8-8 or worse, only 4 seasons with more than 9 wins, has a habit of making the critical mistakes.

Another "close" loss by the Chargers that boils down to a talented roster fading down the stretch due to a lack of discipline. Even Baker Mayfield has enough self-restraint not to make that final throw.

If the trade deadline weren't in the rearview, I'd say the Chargers should trade for Josh Rosen.
