It's not just the crowd of people standing around, it's the whole "control room" setup with the electronic walls of prospects, rows of identical monitors, etc. For contrast, here's the Patriots' war roomn:
Behind The Scenes: Patriots Draft Room

I doubt it makes a difference either way--as others have said, the Bills had a solid draft. And let's be honest, if the Patriots had set up a deluxe hi-tech draft bat cave and the Bills were scribbling with dry erase markers in the world's most generic conference room, we'd be laughing in the other direction. But still, wow what a contrast.

Its funnier because of the year after year results. Brings to mind that scene in Indiana Jones when the bad guy goes through some sort of elaborate nunchucks acrobatic psych out routine and then Indy just shoots him and walks away.

I don't get why people are making fun of the Bills for this video. If anything, their fans will be happy to see all the drama and what actually goes on in their war room. I think Beane is putting together a solid team, so whatever works...it really doesn't matter whether there are 7 or 8 people like the Patriots have or 30 people. The important thing is the actual picks...

Some of those people may actually be season ticket holders, whom I know some teams are now allowing into their draft rooms.

Looking at the talking heads ratings is weird...How can most of them give very high ratings and the last negative nellie hand out D's and F's ????? Cowboys, Raiders and Dolphins.......Thor from Rotoworld.......Is he a hater????

I feel like anything more than 6 people actually participating in the process gets in the way. And that's with 2-3 of them constantly making calls to see what the trade options are.

It changes by round though. Round 1 can legitimately be done by 1 person as long as your prep is done. Round 2 moves a bit faster and has more variables so that when you want 2-3 people but nothing should be too surprising there. Round 4-7 is where you would actually need a big 5 person room as things go fast and you need multiple people doing constant calculations and making multiple calls

Yeah, Reiss mentioned something similar to that regarding the Pats’ draft room, saying a lot of the scouts doing the work over the course of the year aren’t involved and therefore might feel marginalized. I think that’s silly and kind of juvenile. They’re professionals, they do their job, and by draft day that work should be done. Trying to make people feel included is a… I don’t know, feminine?… way of approaching things.

I don't buy this. I've watched the sub documentaries around do your job. The scouts meet regularly with Caserio and the heads of college and pro scouting. Their feedback is heard. All their reports are read and used. They are an integral part of the process without adding a dozen physical bodies to the war room. Same with dept coaches, just because Scar and Judge aren't in the war room doesn't mean their eval on guys isn't extremely key to the process.

Exactly. Their input has already been provided. Pretty scary if they have to grab a scout at that point and say WAIT IS THAT GUY GOOD

Here's a Colts clip. Similar to the Bills and Seahawks. A couple thoughts

-It's so obvious how the hollywood movie Draft Day has influenced war rooms
- The GM is putting on a show for the owner in front of the whole room
- None of the scouts or line coaches need to be there. 30 guys in the back so one can confirm "this guy runs like a rocket" is a waste of time
- The decision making isn't about value or who is on their board, Ballard the GM basically asks the owner for his opinion on what to do
- The clapping afterward I think is so silly

Can’t think of a worse idea than letting fans in.

Agree. Turning the draft war room into an entertainment thing is idiocy. Might just be me but it's like inviting a music fan to a band's song writing / recording session which is notably different from a concert back stage pass.

Wow, is there anything that better illustrates the difference in values between the Patriots and others?
  1. Ownership can enjoy the process but not be part of the decision making or get in the way of the work being done.
  2. This is just what we do for a living vs. this is part of the entertainment package for the fans.
  3. Operate from a position of confidence and strength vs. needing to make a positive impression.

What you have here is a room full of incredibly insecure human beings that need to feel important.. like an old boys club, most of them NEEDED to find a way into that draft room so they could say "Yea, i was there!"

Its about insecurity and ego
There's plenty of that to go around in this world sadly.

I'd let the fans in the building... like the luxury boxes and bar areas... and have a good time. Maybe have a panel of former players like Zolak, Bruschi, Fauria, Light, or Brown. Maybe raise money for some of the player foundations, silent auctions, and the ever popular square around and bunt a baseball with a Lombardi trophy game.

I wouldn't let fans in the actual draft room.

Not to make things weird but looking at the Colts, Bills, Seahawk war rooms full of 50+ people each, it was striking how much the nfl is basically all still 99.5% old white guys

The Patriots.com film crew blurred out all the interesting bits of the Pats' video!

Yep. The last thing you want is social media posts detailing how a pick wasn't who your team really wanted.

Thor is the man. Good guy.

They probably depend on input from the billdo (wanna-be) mafia

From top to bottom you can tell this organization is on the same wave length. From the head coach to the social media video editors, the Patriots are truly a one of a kind organization. Everything is done in the best interest of the football team.

Always cool to see how many people are in each draft room. Wonder who they all are.

Lot of those guys are gone by the 2nd or 3rd day.
