Marsh describes Pats as "no fun"

Eric Mangini is on First things First this morning and just roasted Marsh. Mangini of all people is defending Bill here and was hilarious about it. Mentioned dude’s expectations of himself were lower than what NE wanted him to do along with him not having a whole bunch of teams trying to claim him.
Apologies in advance for the brief hijack, and what he caused is still unforgivable, but it wouldn't shock to learn that ManJudas kinda regrets the entire episode of Week 1 2007; and if he had to do it all over again, he would've just kept his yap shut.

But if you can embrace the elements that make the Pats so great (an appreciation for discipline, commitment, and the process that goes into success), I suspect you can have "fun". Or, at least, feel enriched and fulfilled at a more meaningful level.
I think a great thing about Bill Belichick is he's not at all about bluster, and all the non-football distractions and "spectacle" of the sport. This is something that some Cowboys complained about regarding Tom Landry, toward the end. There's definitely a cultural gap, in terms of how people in general and especially young people lived and entertained themselves between the 60's/70's and today. I think it makes Bill special, and as a player I'd really appreciate him and what he can do for players...sorry he's not Bozo or Parcells or whatever, but he's going to help you be a better football player, and in my opinion, a more dedicated, responsible person, which is a really good thing.

I don't get it.

What exactly do they want BB to do? Put in a Slip n Slide at TC?
...if he does, I think, maybe he's finally lost it

Great idea!! Thanks!!

I'm a bit late to this thread but isn't Marsh the same guy who had consecutive roughing the kicker penalties for us or am I thinking of someone else?
No it was he and Bolden who did it consecutively.

White, tatted up Patriots edge defender with left-wing politics leaves team due to unhappiness about being asked to do more than one thing.

Surprisingly not the first time this very specific thing has happened in the past 2 years.
Wow, well-done! It only took someone 199 prior posts before injecting politics into a clearly non-political thread. Happy 200th! I could absolutely be missing something about Marsh's indiocy, but please enlighten me about his politics and how they're relevant to this topic. Thanks!

His race and politics are irrelevant except when you think about how coincidentally similar they are to Chris Long, who left for a similar reason. Just pointing out the long string of coincidences. They definitely don't mean anything.

Thanks for being rude though.

Of course it wasn’t fun for him. When you’re bad at your job, everything sucks.

A homer is someone who can’t look at their team objectively.
Exactly.

Of course there are mistakes made in building the team and mistakes made in coaching. They're human. It doesn't make me a homer though to acknowledge that no team has done it better for a longer period.
Their success is not "homerish", it's just a fact.

I dont agree or like every move they make but left a lot of super bowls on the table? I can see 1 they may or may not have, how do you come up with many?
Good question. Every draft for any team trickles down into the following year and beyond. I understand you can't hit on every draft pick but the stretch that bothers me the most was from 2005-2007, 2009-10, 2015 (coaching), 2017 (coaching).

Lost Opportunities:

2006 So the Pats lost Givens and Branch was holding out which forced the Pats to draft Chad Jackson in the 2nd round when they still had glaring needs at LB. They drafted Maroney in the 1st round which showed some promise and Jackson was dealing with injuries until his career was K.O.'d in the AFC Title Game. If the Pats just had one decent LB in that game against the Colts, they would've won that game and the Super Bowl.

2007
That draft was flat out pathetic but their trades were an A+. Despite all the talent they had on offense, Maroney was extremely disappointing as a 2nd year player and should've easily had a more productive season which could've helped take the pressure off of Brady during the Super Bowl. It's hard to fault the defense during that game as they held the Giants down as long as they could but they were just out coached as McDaniels admitted during a documentary on ESPN. That Super Bowl loss is tough to let go.

2009-10 This was a big year for the Pats given the fact they had all that draft capital. This was the time they were going to address the defense and get some players to get the Pats back on track. Nope. Their best picks were on offense and Chung became a better player when he returned from his time in Philly. Edelman took years to develop. This bad draft trickled down into the following season as they ended up losing to a very inferior Jest squad at home. That loss was embarrassing.

2015 Did the Pats have a bunch of injuries. Yes. But that's not a good enough excuse. The Pats gave away the last 2 games of the season as the Pats would flat out not throw the damn ball in the first half. All they had to do was win one, one game and they were the #1 seed. They ended up having to go to Denver and that defensive game plan was pathetic allowing Manning to score TD's on the first two drives. Embarrassing.

2017 We don't need to rehash that subject.

Honorable Mentions:

2011 Losing to the Giants again? Their D was pretty weak but that was a winnable game.

2012 Losing to the Ravens at home was brutal. They were an inferior team, especially on D. Their D was had a bunch of slow guys who were terrible in coverage at LB but the Pats couldn't exploit it. However, I think they would've lost to the 9ers in the Super Bowl.

I'm going to ask again, this time more politely so I don't offend your feelings, snowfl...oops, sorry! Please provide evidence of Marsh's political leanings and, more importantly, how they relate to his idiotic comments. And, finally, Long's comments about his experience here aren't remotely comparable to Marsh's, but of course, you knew that. I'll wait patiently. And, politely.

WEAKNESSES
Lacks ideal foot speed to outquick left tackles. Could stand to improve weight-room strength and functional core strength. Is tightly wound and will rise out of his stance and play tall. Can be overly emotional, lose focus and play undisciplined (too many errors). Will require a strong positional coach.

A homer is someone who can’t look at their team objectively.

I'm critical all the time, including the lack of talent at Marsh's position for two years in a row. I definitely consider myself a homer because I only root for the home team and only want the team to succeed, even if I might question moves along the way.

Considering we're fortunate enough to follow the greatest team in NFL history, it seems to me being a homer is a lot more objective than criticizing every draft pick, half the players on the team and calling them busts after a month on the field. What do you call that? Sure seems like a lot more negative Nancys than homers and the homers end up being rewarded for their faith in the team far more often.

Elijah, what exactly are you trying to infer?
Chris Long was not unhappy here-he has said quite the opposite many times. He left on very good terms. Totally different situation from Marsh.
You're really reaching for something that's probably not there.
It was a trollish post and you know it.
You can do better.
John Kerry is a close friend of BB's. None of us know anything about BB or TBs politics. They both certainly have many friends from all over the political spectrum.
That has nothing to do with this situation.
Trying to equate long and marsh's stints here is absurd- Long produced, Marsh sucked.

Eric Mangini Regrets Spygate, Damaging Relationship With Bill Belichick

Mangina is on record stating that he regrets it. In spite of his attempts to extend the olive branch I remain in the mortal sin camp but might† be willing to revisit my stance were he to atone by successfully committing ritual seppuku atop the Gillette lighthouse during halftime of a Pats/Jete game . I think that level of penitence would go a long way towards showing his regret is sincere.

† No commitment to do so is expressed or implied

BB and TB are normal in this way. People have always had friends of wildly different political views. At least in the America I grew up in.

WEAKNESSES
Lacks idealogical soundness to out think loony lefties. Could stand to improve weight-room banter and functional core voting strength. Is tightly wound and will rise out of his ignorance and flop in differerent positions. Can be overly emotional, lose focus and speak politically incorrect (too many errors). Will require a strong motivational coach.

Yeah but I don't blame him for Goodell and the owners; I kind of feel good knowing they're all exposed now as the corrupt, sick scum they are. It's comforting; there's not shred of doubt left about their hypocrisy and worthlessness. Same for all the media and opponents and fans too.

If they all get swallowed up into a sinkhole I'll have absolutely no problem with it whatsoever.
