Cassius Marsh on playing for the Patriots: ‘They don’t have fun there’

If I recall correctly, Marsh was also raving about the 49ers earlier last week, and kinda throwing the Patriots a dirty one by saying that Jimmy Garoppolo was a far better athlete than Tom Brady. His comment seemed random and could be seen as saying that Jimmy is better than Brady. Overall, pretty sad remarks made from Marsh, trying to throw his past team under the bus, after they traded a 5th and 7th for him.

A few excerpts:
“I confronted (Patriots coach Bill Belichick) about all the things that were going on,” Marsh said. “I won’t get into detail, but it was B.S. things they were doing."

“They don’t have fun there,” Marsh said. “There’s nothing fun about it. There’s nothing happy about it. I didn’t enjoy any of my time there, you know what I’m saying? It made me, for the first time in my life, think about not playing football because I hated it that much.”

Yeah, I doubt playing for the Pats is terribly fun in-and-of-itself.

But if you can embrace the elements that make the Pats so great (an appreciation for discipline, commitment, and the process that goes into success), I suspect you can have "fun". Or, at least, feel enriched and fulfilled at a more meaningful level.

As for the Garappolo/Brady comments, I do agree that there's an implied message underlying what he said, and it seems to be that Garappolo is better than Brady. While that's unlikely, I do think extremely highly of Garappolo. I'm not surprised that he's enjoying his time on the Niners. It's a storied franchise with a seemingly strong QB and coach, in a desirable part of the country. Let's see if they can sustain success into the next season, however. He may end up having a lot less "fun" should the team struggle.

Regardless of the truth value of Marsh's comments, I feel they're in poor taste and reflect poorly on him, especially considering the opportunity the Patriots provided him.

What does “the things they were doing were BS” comment mean? You gotta know that is going to have legs.

FECK Cassius Marsh.

(And feck the man who brought him here in the first place.)

I'm guessing that this is in reaction to the intellectual demands of playing for the Pats. BB's constant quizzing of situational stuff, film study, knowing more than just your own position. Some don't take well to that just as some don't take to academics while others do. Marsh just wanted to get out on the field and run around and hit people but didn't want to have to, you know, think about it.

Playing for the Patriots probably does suck, though, except for the whole winning thing. Don't feel particularly inclined to say he's wrong, and plenty of players have made the same assertions after leaving. But I'm a fan and just watch the team on TV and don't really care about how happy these guys are. They're just bodies in a jersey.

I am so sick of this no fun BS. Quite frankly it pisses me off.

This smacks of entitlement.

I deserve to have fun.

This ham n egger is lucky to have a job.

Players HAVE to know that when you come here..you come to work and to win. Yes you can have fun while doing it and most of our players are out there having fun.

Certain players won't fit this mold...more practice without maybe those "fun" drills other teams do....but that's what WINS. You look at TB (It was a team on Hard Knocks) and they were in a pool doing something just..weird. Yeah they were having fun but...they don't win.

Everyone wants to win...or most do. But a lot of players just want to go and have fun at their job. I know if I had more fun or we had more company outings..get out early ect it would make ME happier...but less successful

It probably isn't fun. Spikes said he felt like a slave, Revis said he was worked so hard they better win a Super Bowl at the end, Reggie Wayne couldn't even get through training camp despite having a borderline Hall of Fame career, Moss pushed himself out of town.

Not everyone is made for it, but that's the price for being consistently successful.

I bet that confrontation with Belichick went well.
Lmao.

Marsh- "Coach, I need to have more fun."
BB- "Marsh , do you like the movies?"
Marsh- "I like matinees, especially."
BN- "Good. You now have all the time in the world to see them. Consider yourself released."

I don't get it.

What exactly do they want BB to do? Put in a Slip n Slide at TC?
