Patriots "Actively" looking to trade for Big Bodied WR

I think a set with two massive TEs, two tiny RBs and Edelman, with any one of the 5 in motion at any given time, is a nightmare set to match up against.

Absolutely, on an individual matchup level. But they know that nobody is going deep, and so presumably can flood the short/intermediate routes.

Whereas if you swap Chandler for Dobson (later LaFell) in your scenario, pretty much every option is open - run, short pitch to a RB, intermediate, long.

Personally I do not trade for a WR. If I trade for anything it is for a CB.

I think Edelman/Amendola/Dobson with Gronk/Chandler & Lewis/White/Cadet? Is plenty of pass catching options especailly considering it is just for 6 games.

Also any WR we trade for at this point will unlikely have an instant impact and by the time they are close to up to speed Lafell should be back.

Help the D; the O will be fine. If you wanna help the O get an OL man in here.

Would you trade Jimmy.G for Joe Haden & Josh Gordon?

Im all for bringing in Vince Mayle just so someone can print this out and stick it on Dobsons locker.

"NFL COMPARSION. Aaron Dobson.

Maybe that will be the fire under his ass he needs. So tired of waiting for Dobson to show up.\

Not a good sign that he was a 4th round pick and already release by the BROWNS doe. Still a little intriguing.

We stink at drafting WRs anyways. So at least we can be assured that we didn't draft another Taylor Price. I dunno, why is the Pats scouting department so bad at picking that one position? We seem very good to above average at finding players in other positions.

While the perception is that the Patriots "stink" at drafting WR, the reality is that they don't stink any worse than someone like Green Bay. The difference is that Green Bay actually puts significantly more draft capital into drafting WR than the Patriots.

Belichick thought enough of Coates to work him out personally
You're assuming that Belichick working him out personally means anything. Belichick worked out Chad Jackson personally and look where that got them..

Would you trade Jimmy.G for Joe Haden & Josh Gordon?
Yes.

You now have an All-Pro CB under control for the prime of his career until he turns 31.

I don't think Josh Gordon is the villain everyone thinks he is. He needs structure and discipline. He is elite when he is on the field.

They need Matt Cassel as the backup to make me completely comfortable.

Personally no. Good QBs are to valuable. We don't know for sure what Jimmy G is yet but i find it unlikely we have a better shot at finding a true Brady successor if we trade Jimmy G now.

The only thing I would trade Jimmy G for is multiple 1st that are relatively high.

Joe Haden's a top 5 CB, is currently in his prime, on a reasonable contract for someone of that stature, and he would be playing now, not in 2 years. I like Garoppolo, but this one's a no-brainer. You don't even need Gordon in the equation.

I just think we forget how much is sucks to not have a good QB. Bledsoe then right into Brady. We have been lucky for 20+ years. I think we are taking for granted we will just find another good QB.

If we trade Jimmy and don't find anyone decent i don't care if we have Joe Haden or not we are going to suck in the next few years. I am not one of those people who thinks Brady has 5+ years left. If I thought he could play till he was 45 I wouldn't mind it so much but i don't think that.

Does anyone know anything about Corey Washington?

He was waived by the Giants this weekend. 6' 4" 214lbs with apparently good speed and good hands. Only 23 years old. Seems like he'd be worth at least adding to the practice squad.

I understand what you mean. The addition of these 2 players would greatly help the teams chances of wining another 2 Superbowls before Brady retires. Surly cementing Brady as the GOAT, and the putting the Patriots atop those steroid steelers of the 70's

This is where I'm stuck. I really think Jimmy has potential to be a top 5 QB in the league for many years to come. However I think he only has the potential if on the Patriots, or another top grade franchise.

Every time I think of Jimmy taking over, and the almost certain dilemma we will have come 2 off-seasons from now, I think of what happened with Farve/Rodgers in 08. If I had to personally compare Garoppolo's skill set to any current starting QB, it would be Rodgers. (No, I'm not saying he's anything close yet) However his skill set is very similar to Rodgers with the mobility, quick release, and nice deep ball. Now we all know how great sitting behind Farve for the first 3 years was for the overall development of Rodgers. It was truly a blessing for the franchise. Not the kind of lucky ass blessing the Dolts got with Luck. It was planned and it worked out really well. Knowing all of this, I say we shouldn't trade him for anything short of a RG3/rams blockbuster trade, even then you have to ask yourself is it worth it? Look where the rams are after three years of 2, first round picks. Middle of the pack, hoping their QB can actually play.

Im all for the team trading for a top tear CB. My personal target trade would be Mayo for Sean Smith of the Chiefs. Both players are top 10 at their position, same age, both are on the last year of their contract, and both have similar contracts $$ wise. They also both fill a position of need on each team. Both Eric Berry & Sean Smith are on contract years, so its likely the Chiefs use the Franchise tag on Berry in 16, seeing he is an elite talent, and also the Tag for safeties is less then the Tag for a CB. One might ask why would the chiefs trade him? Well for starters he's suspended the first 3 games, and 2nd they just drafted Marcus Peters.

maybe belichick should take out an ad on craigs list

LOOKING FOR BBW TO PUT A RING ON

Is it safe to say that bringing Thompkins back to the PS qualifies as the "big bodied receiver," or are we still wondering about other additions and/or fantastical trade scenarios?

Personally, I'm guessing that they felt that Thompkins at least knew the system well enough and had enough of a rapport with Brady that this is no longer the priority suggested in the thread's title.

Kind of a tangent here, but darnit it's football related so I'm gonna post it.

The4ngryG4mer: How much playing time should we expect Sammy Coates to see on thurs night?
Ed Bouchette: None

Guest: You really don't think Coates will play at all? That surprises me. I would think they would try to give him a few looks...isn't he WR4 right now? So that would mean only running 3WRS all night long, one of them being DHB...
Ed Bouchette: I think he is No. 5

Guest:
No. 5 with Bryant in right? Fist 4 games wouldn't Coates move to top 4? Who would be above him besides AB, Wheaton, Bryant and DHB?
Ed Bouchette: Tyler Murphy
That would be undrafted rookie Tyler Murphy, BC's QB last season. Still a long way to go, but that's a really ugly start for Coates.

I don't really know what to believe. After all, Coates led the entire team in preseason receptions.

While the popular rumor around town is that Coates is behind DHB, it's not nearly as bad as Ed Bouchette is making it out to be. From what I've heard, DHB is ahead simply due to experience in the system, although the bottom line is that Coates isn't "game ready" as a rookie. Hardly anything terribly shocking, but something worth keeping an eye on.

I mean, so did Chris Harper. By quite a bit. I don't expect him to see the field much either.

Sure, but no one is pointing out how another rookie no name, who was a former QB to boot, is ahead of him on the depth chart.

Harper is the low man on the totem pole here, and yet we're still excited about his potential to contribute at some point in time. If anyone really thought that Coates was going to see a ton of opportunities in his rookie year with Brown, Bryant, and Wheaton ahead of him, they were delusional.

The answer to this question won't be known for a couple of years.
