Screw off Ray Lewis

If they hadn't called the tuck rule on that play, they should have called Woodson for an illegal blow to the head of the QB. Would that have made it all right for Ray Ray, I wonder? Because it would have been a 15-yard penalty and not just a incomplete pass.

That blow to the head caused the fumble, too, by the way.

True.

Of course, Vrabel hit Warner in the helmet on Ty's pick-six in the Super Bowl. And he wasn't flagged either. :)

I think I know what he is implying. Lets play along without accepting what he is saying.
Brady loses the fumble, Raiders win that game. Next year, Bledsoe gets his job back? What happens to Brady? What has he really done for the Pats in 2002? After all, he lost a playoff game by fumbling.
Sometimes the difference between greatness of all time and being a nobody are that slim.
Brady could have become a career backup really.
Well, except for the part where it would be a cold day in hell before Belichick gave Bledsoe the job back. He's not stupid.

Not to stick up for a murdering bastard but I think his point was more so about the rules of the game not reflecting reality. He's saying the tuck rule was a fumble and Bryant's non catch was a catch. Bad choice of words, but this is a good example of media twisting things to sell headlines.
I kind of agree, but if I recall, Woodson would have been flagged for a blow to the head of a QB under current rules.

During the rules at the time the tuck rule was correctly applied.

Agreed but same with the dez Bryant non catch. We all know the tuck rule was a bs rule that's why it's gone. Ain't complaining though, I'll take that ring ;)

That story just broke PFT... 296 comments in 2 hours, lol. Pretty safe to say that Tom Brady and his NFL career are a pretty polarizing topic among NFL fans?

Ray Lewis is just whinning because his Ravens were outclassed by a better coach, team and much better quarterback..Cry me a river Ray,your a friggen felon..

I don't understand why they care so much. When I hate/dislike someone, I don't want to know them. That person is dead to me.

hid yo kids hide yo wife cuz lewis out here murderin everbody!

It's like the Jets, what would you expect.

If I read this correctly, what you're telling me is, Ray Lewis took the time to speak about something other than how he was the most amazing leader of all time and nobody could possibly come close to his greatness?

I'm buying a lotto ticket.

He sounds about as sour as Harbaugh.

Well, I think this would Belichick's response, complete with hoodie:

Funny how no one said anything earlier in the year when the jets had it called in their favor, and I think it was against us.

RL actually sounds like he is into the sauce or something...both him and his employer (ESPN) are non-factors for me, ever since NFL Game Day...
That is absolutely correct Halifax.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuck_rule

The tuck rule call went against us against the Jets on Sept. 23, 2001. That's right. The same game when Bledsoe got hurt and began the career of Brady. I'm sure the irony would be lost Double-Murder Ray.

It happened with 14:22 left in the second QTR. A.Pleasent sacked Testaverde and Seymour recovered the ball around the Jet 29. Would have left us in scoring position. Instead the Tuck rule was invoked and Jets kept the ball and punted. Bledsoe took the shot from Lewis with 5:11 left in the 4th. Brady came in with 2:16 left down 10-3.

Who knows how that game may have played out if the Tuck rule wasn't there and we had gotten the ball. Irony.

It's on NFL.com. I just heard the whole thing in its proper context. I don't like Ray Lewis.
Guy sounds pissed off the Ravens got their asses kicked. It was more aggressive than I expected considering his respect for Brady's game.

I'm not going to say he's wrong about the rule, but bad, post season changing calls happen in every play off tournament. `Face Guarding` helped Peyton get to Rex Grossman. Ben Roethlisberger beat the Seattle Seahawks in a game that looked straight up Black Sox rigged. If you go through the history of the play offs, you'll find an official who changed the course of a game, and thus NFL history.

The only reason the Tuck Rule is special, even though it was called before that night, and called plenty of times after, os because people are haters

New England got one nice break in the play offs, 14 years ago, and has done plenty since without one. Other teams have made out a lot better if we want to talk about bogus play off calls, and in more helpful places than the Divisional round.

I found it interesting that inn the article that came with the link, our own NECN makes the mistake of noting the that the play came in the final seconds of the game. That is wrong! The Radiers STILL had a chance to keep the Pats out of FG Range. The Pats STILL had to make that FG. Not only that, the FG just TIED the game. The Raider still had a chance to stop the Pats and win the game.

The Cowboys, and later GB are getting a lot of protection because in both those games the other team still had time to overcome the bad call. Neither team did. The same goes for the Raiders. They had a number of chances to overcome a bad rule (it was NEVER a bad call) Yet never do the Pats get that same kind of consideration

That's an excellent point. Last week, I heard plenty of hosts and callers on the radio say things like "No one made the Lions punt on 4th and 1" "No one made their punter shank a 10 yard kick" and "When they got the ball back, they fumbled it away." Aside from Patriots fans, you almost never hear that about the Patriots-Raiders game.

he was preaching insanity.

If I got upset every time a former NFL player or sports commentator said something incredibly stupid and not at all based in reality, surely I would've killed myself by now.

The only reason Lewis is known is that he was involved in a murder.

First thing that jumps out at me is the ray Lewis comment occurred during an interview with Stephen A Smith. Everything Smith does is fully scripted with the intention of generating a reaction. I don't see any reason to believe this is any different.

So what does Smith (or his staff) do, leading up to a game involving the Patriots? Find a well known loyalist to the team the Patriots beat, to make a disparaging remark about the Pats. The New England patriots are the most polarizing team in the NFL (if not all pro sports). Bringing up the tuck rule is a simple case of picking low hanging fruit to generate response from his consumers (audience), which drives ratings, which drives profits, which pays his salary.

Personally I do not consider Smith to be a professional sports journalist; to me he is instead an entertainer. I wouldn't take anything he says, or gets his guests to say seriously.

As @PATS16N0 noted, Lewis is probably still upset over the team that he still considers himself to be part of, that was the most important thing in his life for over a decade, lost to a longtime rival a few days ago. If Smith was a professional then he would have asked Lewis about his previous comments about Brady, and asked which was true and which was false.

Ray Lewis on Tom Brady: He is the 'greatest of greats' | Baltimore Sun

“He’s not the biggest. He was never the strongest. He was never the fastest,” Lewis said intensely. “He was overlooked. He went in the sixth round. So with that being said, all of the intangibles that a quarterback is supposed to have, they overlooked with him because it was burning from the inside of him.”

Lewis called Brady “the greatest of greats,” saying “he was willing to go beyond limits that people won’t go to.”

“You don’t find too many people playing that’s willing to sacrifice that much time to doing that,” Lewis said of the 33-year-old. “That’s why Tom Brady will always be considered one of the greatest of all time.”

Ray Lewis proclaims Tom Brady 'greatest of all time' | Sporting News

Lewis heaped praise on Brady, calling him "the greatest of greats" and saying, "he was willing to go beyond the limits that people won't go to. You don't find too many people playing that's willing to sacrifice that much time to doing that. That's why Tom Brady will always be considered the greatest of all time."

Talking about the challenge of playing against Brady, Lewis said, "It's a chess match because he understands every coverage, he understands every defense. And if you give it away too early, then the game is like checkers for him. He plays it how he wants to play it. ... And that's what makes it frustrating playing against him. He always finds those mismatches."

He's just pissed because Brady dropped a dime to Lafell to beat the Ravens and normally he just kills people for dropping dimes.

Little known fact, in 2002, in Brady's worst year- he led the NFL in TD passes (has anyone ever done that in their 2nd year playing), and was sixth in yards. I think the job was Brady's either way.

I understand the "one moment" argument, kind of like Namath is largely known for one game but come on. What about the other 8 AFC championship games he made? The 50TD season, the othe Super Bowls. Elway got a chance to screw up 3 SB's, but one division lost would end Brady? Not buying it.
