The Offense is Loaded

This is what a lot of people fail to comprehend. They blindly look at stats, but not where they came from or how that team or players match up with other players or teams.

Case in point Buffalo on offense and defense. They both ranked very high (1-3 in the NFL), but their defense would get shredded come playoff time. Happened once again in the divisional round. Allen puts the offense on his back, but has been overmatched almost every playoff game and can't win in shootouts.

I'm wondering if our lack of goal-line/short yardage production, in addition to the bad run blocking, was the lack of real receiving threat outside Diggs. If this works out, defenses will have a lot more to account for with the Patriots.

This is a point I hadn't really spent much time on.
Who's in the running for that particular title? Denver...maybe? Jacksonville...maybe? Chargers...maybe?
Tommy you and I agree on many many things.
One thing we differ on greatly is Allen.
We saw it here for years, and we've seen it with other top QBs throughout the years. If you have a top QB you are always in contention.
That all said, I fully expect the Bills to be firmly in the mix.
If Mahomes is Healthy, I will not discount the Chiefs.
Houston great D, QB?
Denver, great D, QB?
Chargers, good QB that always teases to be more.
Give me the teams with the top QBs, it's just the way it works.
Pats/Bills/Chiefs.

I do agree with us, Denver and Houston having the most complete rosters.

Mahomes is not healthy. And besides that, the team around him has turned to dogshit. They were 6-9 when he *started* last year.

And you'll see about the Bills this year. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but last year was their last shot, IMO. If they win 10 games I'll be surprised. It's just not 2022 anymore.

Chargers and Broncos are probably the other top contenders at the moment on paper but Nix’s injury is a question mark. Jacksonville’s roster on paper is good but I question if they actually perform to the sum of their parts. Houston is incredible on defense but offensively average. KC, Buffalo, Baltimore are a step below but still deserving of respect.

Good news is Chargers, Broncos and Chiefs all play in one division and will beat the **** out of each other first.

And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong and will be the first to admit it, but I believe the Bills will be a good team this year, battling with us for the East.
We can check in on our predictions down the road.

Houston has a pretty O, but they need Stroud to get back to form.
If he does, their O is plenty good enough.

Our defense was awesome. The offense was exposed

The offense is probably the best in the AFC.
factoring in QBs? Maybe. But there is a lack of good QBs in the AFC. Bengals might be the best. Bills might be too cause Allen is a beast. They have 2 good TEs. Add in Moore who is a decent #1 and they are in business. shakir is absolutely better as a #2. Plus James Cooks is just a beast at RB. It could be the Pats though. I think It probably will be due to Maye just showing he is that guy.

Buffalo. Because of Allen.
And Im not counting out KC.
Both those teams are ahead of Denver and Jville imho

Kansas City was 6-11 last year. Josh Allen committed 5 turnovers in his last playoff game.

And Maye was terrible in his last playoff game.
Was there reasons, sure but people see what they want to see.
Allen had cleaned up his TOs in the playoffs and had incredibly impressive stats in his last several playoff games before Denver.
He no doubt made plays against Denver that were mind blowingly awful. His fumble before half-time was one of the worst plays I have seen in over 45 years of watching the NFL.
But.....
remember how all the pundits declared our dynasty dead after our first 3?
Brady has lost a step.....etc.
a few yers later we had 3 more SBs.
Mahomes and Allen are great players and their careers are far from over.
Writing them off is folly.

Bengals don’t have a good enough OL, Burrow will inevitably get hurt again. The Bills are going to take a step back after dumping their coach for a borderline unqualified newbie just because Allen likes him and they barely had anyone else who would interview, while simultaneously getting worse on defense.

I would say loaded.

The 2025 offense was good, and made it to the SB. This offense should be better at QB, RB, WR (much), TE, OT and IOL (much), with much better depth.

That's "loaded", to me.

They did a great job of addressing their needs this offseason, but there will also be an unfortunate repercussion. They improved their skill players and also addressed their size, toughness, and blocking. They will be a top offense again this year, but these improvements will also lead to more red zone rushing touchdowns, and there's no way Maye will be able to put up the double digit touchdown passes from the 1 yard line necessary to win the MVP. He could lead them to a Lombardi, but without 15-20 1 yard touchdown passes Stafford or Purdy will once again beat him out for the MVP.

We should expect to win the division this year, and we probably have the most complete roster in the AFC. Where we go from there will depend on health and execution.

This is a point I hadn't really spent much time on.

The Rams and Seahawks are formidable and complete teams, but are not in the AFC.

Among the potential AFC teams:

1. Houston. Super tough defensively. OL not as good as ours, offensive skill grouos slightly weaker. Biggest issue is QB.

2. LA Chargers. Good QB and OL (if Slater and Alt healthy). Not as good offensive skill players. Comparable defense, maybe a bit less strong overall.

3. Denver. Great defense and OL. Offensive skill not as strong. Nix a much more limited QB and coming off an injury.

4. Buffalo. Top QB, good OL, strong run game, but depth limited Defense not as strong.

5. Baltimore. Good talent on both sides of the ball. So dependent on Lamar Jackson.

6. KC. Mahomes always dangerous but coming of ACL. I don't see the talent across the board.

Any given Sunday, but I like our chances if healthy.

Not sure it's stacked, but a good offense with a good defense.

That's why I don't understand talk in the other thread about year 2 of a rebuild.

The Patriots are up there with the most talented rosters in the AFC.

Agreed. BIlls, Ravens have new HCs, chief's roster is aged and Mahomes is recovering from ACL, Denver is legit however Nix is still recovering from the bad foot injury, Houston defense is nasty but CJ stroud hasn't taken that leap, Chargers are a playoff team but Herbert is what he is.. Jags are a talented team..

This move for AJ was so imperative to be done now heading into mini/training camps.

Patiots are in win  now mode. Simply we all have to do is look at how they have built back up the roster in essentially 2 off seasons it's impressive..
