anyone catch the Mcdaniel/Grier presser yesterday?

Guy is soft, let the inmates run the asylum, and 100% lost control of that team.........the "wunderkid" is yet another great coordinator who shouldn't be a HC

It's kind of exactly why I am leaning Vraebel or Flores

A cancer like Tyreek Hill does not help your team win it all.

The Bills found that out with Diggs.

sounds like it was far more than Tyreek, though......having a coach dance around and act like a fool, not setting/maintaining a viable winning mindset/culture, letting players run the show is a recipe for disaster

Mcdaniel is a great offensive mind.......not a good HC

Its only going to get worse with NCAA players earning money and the portal.

This is the problem... McDaniel is this weird immature kid running around playing coach. Yes he is very good at calling an offense, but he doesn't seem very good at managing a team. I've seen so many strange clips of him dancing and making odd jokes and "trying to be one of the guys" and it obviously just doesn't work. If anything it would've worked better for Mayo since he actually WAS one of the guys (as in, an actual NFL linebacker) - McDaniel was a ball boy.

Some of the players (Tua) give him credit for being really in tune with their "feelings" but feelings don't win football games. I think a big part of the reason Flores gets crapped on is because the guy who came after him is McDaniel, and the contrast between Flores being a hardass who doesn't care about your feelings vs. McDaniel being overly focused on your feelings makes Flores seem cruel in comparison.

I think 2025 will be McDaniel's last year, he will get fired midseason or end of season, and he will go back to being an OC somewhere. He will light it up wherever he goes and end up getting another HC job due to that and it will repeat the cycle.

In regards to Ben Johnson and being wary of him due to this - I don't really see a comparison IMO. If you watch any clips from Johnson's pressers, he comes off as a lot more rough around the edges than McDaniel.

For those who want to draw a paralell to Ben Johnson here... it's way off. Johnson ain't a goof. By all accounts his players really respect and look up to him as a professional, on top of being blown away by his acumen. He's a hardass in a good way. Unlike Mayo who was only a hardass in the ****ter.

P.S. I'm not against Vrabel, just noting why McDaniel and Johnson isn't a good paralell for those who might see it that way.

no, my concerns with BJ are not the same, they are just the same lol - being a great coordinator does not make one a great HC, and honestly, vice versa

he doesn't seem to have strong interpersonal skills.....Washington said he came off as aloof, disconnected, etc.......he seems to be yet another offensive savant who doesn't connect well......that works as an OC, it does not work as a HC.......

so while i don't think he's a twit like Mcdaniel, I am concerned he simply doesn't have the HC mindset/skillset.......one can be a great coordinator, and your assistants can help with the delivery of the offense to the positions, covering for you lack of interpersonal/leadership skills just fine.......but one cannot be a HC and hope his coordinators can cover this up........interpersonal skills & leadership skills are the MAIN skillset for a HC.....it's one of the things that killed Mayo, and it is one of my main concerns with BJ

I absolutely despise this guy. At first it was just his face and girly pants. Then Hard Knocks happened and he looked like a girly fanboy somehow coaching a team of men. Then he walks out to the sideline week 1 and he looked like a ****ing reject with that half jerry curl do, the three-day beard, for most men, I'm sure that was a two-week project for him, with the sunglasses and still wearing that ****ed up face and those god-awful pants.

again, i don't see the parallel in their shortcomings - the parallel is between Mcdaniels, Mcdaniel, possibly Johnson.....and a whole slew of other coordinators who have the chops to be a great coordinator, but failed at HC

we don't know if BJ has the skillset to succeed as a HC........and the issues brought forth after his Washington interview are huge red flags for me........this team can't afford huge red flags and unknowns, imho

They are imploding.

Good.
Let's hope by Thursday afternoon by the time everyone has had enough wine and gourmet food in them.. we end up having the best coach in the AFCE.. MIKE VRABEL!!!... no disrespect to McDermott..

They loaded up, had the innovative coordinator, the “great” QB and yet . . . 8-9, missed the playoffs.

i've said from day one he was a clown........his offensive prowess got him enough pre-Thanksgiving wins to keep him afloat, but his clown car is breaking down finally.....

and it makes sense - the HCs johnson has worked with (a short list) have mostly been more cut from the hardass mold

but the only time the hardass/heavy accountability model truly works for more than a few years in the NFL is when they are smart enough to temper it with the other side

jerry kramer always said when you thought lombardi was going to praise you, he kicked your ass......and when you thought he was going to light you up, he patted you on the back........the true greats (like belichek, who's human side the media overlooked) knew this.......the pretenders, like Parcells, didn't quite get it

You make good points. All in all.. there seemingly were far more issues with Mayo then initially realized. With that being said Vrabel just checks all the boxes your looking for in HC.. as you need someone that is an alpha and commands respect from the players. I absolutely love the idea of Ben Johnson as he's an offensive Genius. I'd say he'd be coming to a team devoid of talent with a excellent young QB. From what was mentioned on WEEI yesterday Johnson wasn't reportedly a good interview with teams last season was only knock on him. For a multitude of reasons Vrabel just feels right.

It's fair to wonder. No one will know until he goes and tries to do it. He comes off as less of a dink to me, as far as I have seen, but that doesn't mean he will be able to lead a team. It's part of the reason I also have Vrabel as my first choice, but if he can't be had, I'd be happy to roll the dice on Johnson.

The Bills found that out with Diggs.
When Hill had an alpha dog at QB like Mahomes he was kept in check for a while but with Tua and McDaniel it was only a matter of time till Hill reverted back to who he is.

Feel complelled to add my two cents : I am NOT against BJ. (I'm absolutely loving these initials)
