AFC Scout: Pats are a disorganized program

I think that would change if Kraft saw a HC he really wanted available and willing to come to NE.
He would also need to grow some balls to go with his “Thunderjunk”. I can’t see Kraft letting mayo go before at least 2 years are up. It took him what, 4 years of the dynasty imploding to let BB go who has so much more experience than him? I think mayo will get at least 2 years but someone else will be made an example of.

Could just be wishful thinking on my part. I actually like Mayo, but I don’t like the coaching job he and his staff have done so far this season. And I don’t think you need just a franchise QB to win Super Bowls, you also need a great coach ( although there are exceptions). And finding a great coach is every bit as hard as it is to find a great QB. So if they see one available then I’m all for cutting ties with Mayo and going for it.

Did he get to form his own staff? I recall reading somewhere that he was in such a bubble having only worked in NE that he didn’t have enough contacts to know who to select.

That said, you’re not wrong.
That’s part of the package Kraft selected. You get the whole package, not just the parts you’d like to see.

They're not wrong. I mean, I was hoping that we'd see some kind of improvement in at least one or two parts of their game by now but I can't tell you one thing they do well. They need to find out why that is (personnel? coaching? both?)
QB isn’t better?

Wolf's incompetence goes well back into the Belichick years. It'd be great if he had a grand slam in him, but he's more of a stand-at-the-plate, do-nothing, hope-for-a-walk sort of fella.
I must say it's very impressive that the team hasn't quit on Mayo. Are we really 2 games out of playoff contention at 3-7 ?

This does speak well of Mayo, of that aspect of his coaching. I dont think it says anything about Wolfe.

I have always said Mayo's got the longest leash . I tell you why. His contract isn't controlled by wolf he reports directly to ownership. Wolf and Mayo are in charge of the roster together with wolf having final say. Wolf will be highly and fairly criticized on the offseason to come.

Mayo is young. It's impossible to determine what kind of coach he will be. You might say he took this job too early before he had seasoning. BUT it's also true there are huge questions about his assistants.

I am skeptical about the coaching at the following positions on the team (in descending order): OC, DC, LB, DL, Special Teams, WR, RB.

I feel good about these coaches: OL, CB, S, TE.

I see people are becoming optimistic.

I like optimism, I can go with it to a degree.

BUT I'm also a realist.

The NFL is one big crudshow this season.

It shouldn't be lost on people that our last 2 wins were against teams that are devolving in the Jets and Bears.

And last week we lost to a terrible team in Tennessee.

We went into the season with SOS showing the Patriots had the toughest schedule in the NFL.

Yet this looks like the weakest slate since Matt Cassel went 11-5 in 2008.

There has never been an NFL team that's 2-7 that has been organized.

Technically you're correct as the 2011 'Suck for Luck' Colts were never 2-7, after 9 games they were 0-9. That said, the losing was highly organized, one could also say it was organized from on high. Either way wouldn't be incorrect.

The inconsistency with this team is an indictment on the coaching staff. There's enough talent in there to play well, look like an NFL team and we've seen it in stretches, but they're not conistent enough because the coaches have not done a good enough job, especially on defense.

Yes your right. The organized tanking that season who could forget where painter drew all over our defense thst game at Gillette

Your right there. It is up the the coaching staff to put players into positions of strength. Not making any excuses for the defense but they are asking 3rd and 4th string guys and practice squad guys to play major roles. If they were performing this badly say with Barmore, peppers, dugger Bentley in the line up...then yeah I fully put it on the staff alone.
