I don't know about that, 60% of the teams are at or above .500I think in a perfect world, someone else would take over personnel duties and BB could stay as HC. It hasn't been his best year in that regard either, but I think people are underestimating how crappy the majority of NFL head coaches are nowadays. Willingly entering that carousel again is a major gamble.
Look at some rookie and recent coaches:
PHI - 3rd yr (10-2) 2nd RD QB
DET - 3rd yr (9-3) 1st RD QB
MIA - 2nd yr (8-3) 1st RD QB
HOU - rookie (7-5) rookie QB
IND - rookie (7-5) rookie QB / back-up QB
MIN - 2nd yr (6-6) back-up QB
ATL - 2nd yr (6-6) back-up QB
Even Payton, who started DEN's season at 1-5 and now has them at 6-6 ( they should've won yesterday).
There's plenty of talented young coaches out there. We can't be scared of trying to find one just because he'll be working in the shadows of Belichick.
100%, this won't work.HOWEVER, we don't live in a perfect world. Even if BB agreed to give up personnel control (which I doubt he would), what happens the first time he gets a player who he wouldn't have picked, and that player gets off to a slow start? As much as one would hope he'd stick it out and give the kid a chance, more than likely that kid is getting buried. It's really hard to suppress those biases when you've had final say for so long, and that's not just Belichick, that's every human being.
100%It's time for a fresh start. Definitely for the Patriots, and if BB wants to keep coaching he'd probably benefit from a change of scenery himself.
