Think you're underselling him a bit. Smith is a clown. First with Grantland now with the Ringer and HBO, Simmons has moved well beyond the "Boston Sports Guy" persona to someone who works with respected writers, interviews the President, etc.

Is he still a Boston fan? Yes. And clearly no love lost with ESPN. But it's still very much a positive when he takes shots like this.

As with Ben Affleck, I appreciate the support Simmons gave, and has given, Brady. God knows the number of national figures who have done so are few and far between. Good for them. I don't care that Affleck and Brady are good friends or that Simmons's roots are local. Glad they've been supportive and had the balls to row against the national tide.
