It would of been nice to see 27-30 year old Troy Brown with this Brady and these pass happy rules now in the NFL. He probably would of racked up Wes stats in a breeze. He actually caught the 20 yard pass to get Vinatieri in range. F U wes!

That was a shoulder block! It wasn't that dirty. Belichick is being overly dramatic. Did he get this upset when that Cleveland defender dove straight at Gronk's knee?

Ward's hit was a legal play as constituted by the NFL rules. Welker's was illegal especially given the fact that they flagged the Pats earlier when Hoomanawanui grazed a Broncos LB.

Belichick is making the noise because those type of illegal pick plays can get defensive guys hurt.

I'm late to the thread, but did read pretty much all of it.

Here's my observations/opinions

1. The Bronco receiver definitely seems to be looking at Welker for the coming pick.
2. I don't think Welker was trying to injure and they seemed to hit shoulder to shoulder (or slightly below Talib's shoulder--- hence the ribs).
3. Welker knew what we was doing and actually prepared the strike (leaned the shoulder in to focus where the contact would be made with him).
4. Manning knew the design of the play. The ball was thrown for the point right after contact (though that is speculation on my part).
5. BB never called the play one that intended to cause injury. He said take out, that could mean to take out of the play or the game. He's smart enough to say it i na manner that causes the most controversy and deniability. Well done. as people pointed out, it's to raise awareness of the tactic.
6. Piera, the NFL tool, shouldn't say things that can easily be proven wrong. I'll have to watch in slow motion, but I believe the posters here when they say contact happened prior to the ball being caught. Also, I think you can say there's some intent on Welker's part that he knew contact was coming and that can easily be seen. The question would be, could welker have avoided the contact even if it was 1/10 of a second late? no because he had a guy lined up.
7. I'd like to see multiple angles on that play. Especially one from behind the QB to see better how it developed.

The crew here provides a proper perspective on this whole hullabaloo. It was a designed pick play, of course, as many teams run, but the notion that little Welker was head-hunting to take people out is absurd.

We knew Welker for years, he is a good guy and i believe him when he says it was a mistake.

Belichick can say whatever he wants, hes pissed at welker because of the lack of communication which led to his being on Denver; hes pissed that for the 2nd straight year, Aqib Talib has been injured in the championship game and it has ruined his defensive gameplan.

I won't be like many people and turn Welker in to a villain, he should have been on this team rather than Amendola and we would have had a better team with him here.

Well I am angry about the no call too. Wonder how much of a trickle down effect it had. Probably significant.

I think BB is correct that Welker had intent to take out Talib. By take out I mean take him out of the play. Welker clearly moves to his his left to get into Talib's way with a either you get out of my way or I'm going to hit you intent.

He was clearly there for the sole purpose of taking Talib out in that play. He wasn't running a route. He even lowers his shoulder at the last second. I don't care what people, players or the media are saying, if you're running a route to get open do you run right into a defender or run around it? The answer is pretty obvious.

I'd like to see more angles of the play, I keep seeing two angles and neither shows the entire shot on Welker from the start to the end of the play. If anyone has it, it would be appreciated.

Terrell Davis, obviously bias, says Welker was looking in the backfield, I find that hard to believe...

"It was one of those plays where it's kind of a rough play and I was trying to get him to go over the top, and I think he was thinking the same thing and wanted to come underneath and we just kind of collided," Welker said Sunday. "It wasn't a deal where I was trying to hit him or anything like that. "I hope he's OK. He's a great player and a big part of their defense."

Welker is a real sack of ****. Yes, Wes, You were trying to hit him after he didn't get out of the way. A receiver running a route would have gotten out of the way of a DB that was clearly covering another receiver. And then you say he's a big part of their defense? What are you trying to say here? You had intent on roughing him up? since he was a big part of their defense? Sounds like what you're saying here.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying he had intent to injure him. But he definitely had intent to not move and rough him up if he didn't move. He had no intention of running a route to get open. It was all about taking Talib out of that play or rough him up if he had an opportunity to do so.

As for some of the people who are questioning why BB never said anything about the TJ Ward hit. Did you actually watch the game or did you go take a piss break while he was down injured? or did you just stop watching the game like countless fans have done lately this and last season because we were down in the game? BB was staring TJ Ward down as he walked by, I bet Ward could feel his eyes burning thru the back of his head! BB was not happy about it, clearly disgusted.

Eric Davis made a great point that they protect offensive players for cheap shots but not the defensive players. He's right.

Unfortunately besides the OPI, Welker didn't do anything wrong according to the rules. So I can't hate him for that as unhappy as I am for the lack of the flag. But the least he could do is man up and admit what he did instead of trying to say oh we were both going in the same direction and collided...what a joke!

Welker only wanted come back at his price. Communication wasn't the problem. Patriots gave him their offer before free agency started, he and his agent scuffed at it and thought there would be numerous other deals out there. Yet the only team that gave him a better deal was the Titans. Pats moved on and Welker had to basically beg Denver to sign him a glorified 1 year deal (which the cap hit was $4.1 million). There's just no-way they are bringing back their 4th best receiving option for an $8 million cap hit if they want to re-sign Decker. Pats offer was 2 years/$16 million barring he performed comparably to his recent production level. Which he probably would have easily done.

Pats gave him the better deal. Welker left because Welker wanted to leave. People like you need to stop making him like he was the one wronged in this. If it was truly about the money he would have went to Tennessee.

Also let's be clear had the Broncos not run that illegal pick Talib never leaves that game. He got injured as a result of an illegal play that was not flagged. Hard to put any blame on him like you are.

Thanks for the hooman OPI GIF. After watching that, what a freaking joke! If anything the Linebacker is making illegal contact beyond 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. The linebacker is clearly the one trying to make the contact. He only moves away from hooman after he sees edelman run by.

Welker clearly was gunning for Talib to take him out -- i.e., not running a route -- and it looks to me like the ball was in the air when he made contact. He can run a damn pick without initiating contact. That should've been flagged.

Find it hard to believe Wes was attempting to injure considering his very recent concussion issues, why risk being out of a SB Game? Fact is, Welker is built to play Football and Talib is built for Bowling.Agree it was a pick play and most know you only need to blow on Talib and hes done.

Thats what the Pats get for letting Wes go, and I sure hope they try much harder this year to bring in talent for Tom. Yeah, I get it ,Bill is probably the best at coaching up players, but that can only get you so far, need to draft better and bring in established players with skill.

This Team overachieved big tim considering the injuries, and it was a highly impressive. season. Need a couple tight ends, couple bonafide receivers and create a stout D and we will win a SB again.

Thats the thing, its not Denvers fault the Pats have their #1 guy playing injured or made of China..This is Football. Pats made bad personnel decisions and came back to bite them in the ass. As talented as Talib is , he needs to go if hes always out when we need him the most....And yes, then some will say, well he was cheap shotted out, ......but only because hes so fragile to begin with
