Patriots biggest draft blunder in the last 5 years?

What strain of marijuana is the kind that only serial killers smoke?

You'll have to explain this one.

Hernandez could have chosen not to kill Odin Lloyd, but chose to do so.

Ras-I Dowling did not chose to suffer the debilitating hip injury that has robbed him off his athleticism.

To put it another way, if Aaron Hernandez had been executed by Odin Lloyd instead of the other way around, and been equally unavailable to the team, I would not consider it such a bad pick.

During Bill's drafts in which there have been plenty of terrible picks, the hands-down
winner/loser is, IMHO:

Tavon WhoTheFeckIsHe?!? Wilson.

Can't predict who is going to shred their ACL, suffer a career-ending concussion or spinal injury, develop diabetes, or who (referring directly to Dowling here) is going to destroy their hip in their second career game either.

Hernandez's totally premeditated and therefore preventable (alleged) crime hurt this team way more than Dowling unpremeditated injury.

The only way I see people avoiding this is by thinking injuries are a part of football and therefore are fair game for advance scouting, while murder executions are not and are beyond the ability of scouts to predict.

That doesn't change what the Pats could have known/foreseen.

Unoriginal, you should change your user-name to Unstable

Hernandez was a great pick.

I have no problem with most of the players the patriots have drafted....My issue is when bill trades talented picks that fills needs.

Dez bryant is the one that truly got away.

Yeah some will dissagree but Brady would have made Dez our Megatron he is the closet player in the League to him when his heads on straight.

Well, if the Pats are not responsible for predicting the future, then the biggest draft blunder of the last 5 years isn't a person like Ras-I Dowling or Aaron Hernandez, who looked good when they were healthy and on the field, but a player like Ron Brace, Jake Bequette, etc. who has never looked good on the field.

Because isn't that what drafting is? Finding players who belong on an NFL field? Irrespective of what they become following injuries and other unforeseeable events?

Just trying to discover the criteria we're using here.

Thankfully we have captain_hindsight to tell us all who Bill should have picked two years after the fact.

Yes, that is exactly what many of us have been saying in this thread.

Imagine Gronk and Hernandez together. Damn you Aaron.

Unfortunately, it was exceedingly rare that both were ever on the field at the same time at 100% even before AH's arrest. That's why, since we are playing the hindsight game, having Gronk, AH AND Graham would have been even better. Taylor Price obviously did not work out at all.

Laurence Maroney
Ras-IR Dowling
Bethel Johnson
Chad JACKSON

Ohrn-bust
Butler-bust
Wheatley Bust?
CB Guy from Auburn bust?

Brace
Chung

Many painful busts in there.

They usually don't miss in the 1st round.

They used to draft a lot of small nimble "let the guy catch the ball and then dance him down" zone CBs. HUGE bust.

They're decent at drafting linemen.

The title of the thread is "Patriots biggest draft blunder in the last 5 years?"

good point, otherwise they're too many to count.

I've thought maybe they need to psychoanalyze some of these guys. If you could weed out the non-competitive or immature guys, let alone total psychos like Hernandez, wow what value you could add.

Sorry then.

When I scanned the thread initially I saw a lot of Ras-I Dowling and "no way it's Hernandez!" and took those mutually exclusive viewpoints as the general consensus.

Isn't that the topic of this thread?

Besides, knowing that Tavon Wilson was a mind-numbingly horrible pick isn't hindsight,
as many of us in the draft forum already knew the microsecond that pick was made.

I wonder if BB was trying to stick it to us this year with the Harmon pick that got a similar reception. It sure looks like Harmon can play some he's not perfect but for a Rookie he looks decent.

How many third round picks are perfect?

And to the point of this thread, how many draft picks are perfect? Every team has their share of busts. I've yet to see any evidence that the Patriots have more than the average.

And your reaction to the Harmon pick?

Do we know if Aaron Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd? People think he did but until we have a trial we do not know the facts of the case other than what has been said at his arraignment and bail hearing.

I can tell you this if they had a solid case against Hernandez they wouldn’t be arresting everyone in his family and friend circle including summoning Miami Dolphins players, they would not be trying to make his child an orphan by attempting to flip the fiancé, they would be proceeding with the case against Hernandez. I am not suggesting that I think he is not guilty but I don’t know what the facts of the case are, as of right now he is guilty of keeping bad company, carrying illegal weapons around his own house, poor etiquette when texting, and renting a lot of cars at enterprise.

I would say Hernandez from what I have read about the case I and I have followed it very, very closely Hernandez has about a 75% chance of being found not guilty on the murder charge and if he is I can assure you he will be in the NFL on a roster within weeks of the verdict being reached or his release for any convictions on the weapons charges.
